DRAFT SPECULATION/NEWS THREAD

So everyone is dreaming of an 8th seed team that gets swept in the playoffs???? That's what's being built right now if the bobcats don't get into the top part of the draft.

I don't agree with your pessimistic logic, when we are going to have the cap room after Ben Gordon comes off the books to go get another $10M guy next season to put with Al Jefferson, Kemba, Zeller, and MKG... and potentially be an 8th seed THIS season without them. I do not think Charlotte will ever be a perennial contender in a league where it has become necessary to have 3 all stars in order to compete, but we could be an 8th seed this year and are poised for steady improvement over the next 4-5 seasons.

You are looking one year down then road when you have to see further out. The Bobcats are building a team the right way and are doing so to have sustained success.

Zeller is worthless and MKG needs 2-3 years to be a solid threat on offense. You say you need 3 all stars to win… we don't even have one… So we need to acquire one through draft. we aren't going to acquire a #1 player/all star with 10mil. We need to acquire a player that will probably be an all star by his sophomore year with a top 3 pick and only pay him 4mil a year while doing so on a rookie contract.

What legitimate free agent will come here to play? Big Al did but really? I can't see another star player wanting to come here with what we have atm. We have one "star" player worth keeping right now and that's Al. Unless we get one of these star players through the draft I don't MJ and Cho being able to sell any big name free agent to come here.

The smartest and the "right way" to build this team is to stick to the damn plans by tanking for a high lottery pick like the last two years and take one of those kids. The incorrect way is to miss out on the one damn draft that we should be tanking.

yeah because all the elite teams like the Lakers, Spurs, Heat etc used the tanking method to build their championship teams.  There is no such thing as a sure bet with anyone that is drafted.  Tanking season after season to try and obtain the best college player is dumb.  Winning starts with a mindset, not the players.  You can win in this league with crappy players as long as you are getting the most out of those players and as long as those players have a winning mentality.  Free Agents did not want to play in charlotte because of the coaching staff.  Charlotte has one of the best staffs in the league now and which was a major contributor to why Al Jefferson signed here.  There will be other free agent signings come next year.  If charlotte wants Wiggens etc, the best way without sacrificing games would be to trade picks, and wouldnt you know it, charlotte has a stockpile of them over the next few years.

Um...the Spurs did. Hi, my name is Tim Duncan. The Lakers/Heat are large markets who can lure stars, not to mention trading for a drafted one with Charlotte (Hi, Kobe). Comparing Charlotte to large markets like LA, or Miami, who oh by the way, DRAFTED Wade, and can lure big FA's like LBJ/Bosh, is silly.

FA don't want to come here because coaching only? Lol. That's just ridiculous and flat out impossible to prove, especially when so many other factors play in. Like, it's Charlotte, NC. Other teams have no taxes on salaries, large markets, better social factors, night life, etc.

Al Jefferson signed here because we overpaid, by a lot. The Jazz didn't intend to bring him back and he had only one or two other suitors. The Bobcats overpaid and he took the money as a smart man would since no contenders were calling or offering nearly the same amount.

Stockpile of picks? If we make the playoffs, we don't have our 1st rounder this year. Looks like we'll get Portland's, but it's going to be in the 20s. Detroit's is up in the air, but will be late lottery at best. You want to move up in the draft, you're going to have to package both of those, and possibly a player to move up.

In this draft more like 2 players, both picks and a future first to move up from the 10-14 range up into the top 5. Unless the Bobcats elect to trade MKG (The only player worth a first round pick in return) then they could manage to move up with both the Portland and Detroit pick and MKG.

It's not worth that much, which is why signing Big Al was a mistake on multiple levels and the Cats winning this season will be one of the worst mistakes the franchise has ever made. Yes, even over taking Morrison or Sean May.

1. The cats super overpaid for him, he's worth maybe 8 million a season at most.

2. He's a volume shooter from the low post and only shoots around 50%

3. His defense is horrible

4. This wasn't the season to make a splash FA wise when next years FA class is better.

5. Big Al's signing gives the Cats 10 million to resign players and make a push in FA, which isn't enough to get a good player.

Basically the Bobcats cracked under pressure from the Charlotte region and it's going to hurt the team in the long run. They need to get lucky in the draft to be a top 4-5 team in the east. Otherwise what's the point, they don't have the building blocks to make a contender outside of a 8 seeded team that gets swept each year.

What pieces do they have?????

Kemba is expendable, Henderson is expendable, Big Al is terrible at defense and just a 50% volume low post shooter at best. I'm not ready to give up on Zeller, but it looks really bad and because of that he can't be considered a building block yet. As of right now, MKG is the only building block the team has right now.

That's it, one player with considerable upside.

This board would wet its pants in excitement if the Bobcats just used all their picks on UNC players.

I'm in favor of tanking but Indiana did not build by tanking. They built through the draft, but not by tanking. Their two best players were drafted 10th (George) and 17th (Hibbert). Lance Stephenson was drafted in the second round.

For the Bobcats, you could argue that our best draft pick so far in the Cho-era was picked 9th overall (Kemba).

This is a very true point, but something the Bobcats have failed miserably on. George for instance, was a high potential guy out of Fresno State I think it was, but no sure thing at all. The Pacers found All-Stars at late lottery and middle 1st round spots. The Bobcats find Bismack Biyombos. Scouting and decision making either needs to improve, or they have to get lucky to prevent themselves from being idiots longer than they have been.

yeah but lets just say building in the draft is best… and we don't have larry bird running our team who can spot talent we have mj who is the complete opposite so we need a top pick that has an obvious pick not a pick where mj has options
