Yeeeshhh... I love our defense and think their bad to the bone but I didn't think winning would get us pumped up like this. I think we're just a lil ways away from such a lofty comparison.

I'll take the end result though!!! :cam:

from another forum I post on by a 9ers fan...

The team is taking a lot of heat for it's inept offense. And rightfully so. Carolina is a good defense, but the 49ers made them look like the 1985 Bears.

my response

lol I guess all the teams we have played have made us look like the 85 Bears. No surprise, since our HC was a player on that team.

I've said before that the comparison between the 85 Bears defense and this one isn't blasphemy.  I was around watching football back then and I think it's a valid comparison...especially given the how much the game has changed since then.  This defense may even have been better had it played in 1985.

It's really difficult to compare defenses from different time periods. In today's game a defender can barely touch a WR or QB while back in the 1970's guys like Jack Tatum could demolish anyone who got near him. The only telling stat is points scored while things like passing or rushing yards have greatly shifted over time.

The gold standard is the 70's Steeler defense....................in 1976 they went 8 games without one TD being scored on them.

Panthers will prove an elite defense with a win here and two wins over the Saints this year............

It's even better that the Bobcats are being compared to the '96 Bulls. Charlotte is wild with talent.
