It was hard for me to root for the Panthers when they totally messed up their 1st two ever drafts. Remember, they traded DOWN from the #1 draft choice and picked up Kerry Collins? They should have stayed put and drafted Steve McNair. Bad start. Even though I am an alum of an HBCU, Tyrone Poole in the first round was crazy to me. Ty Law and Korey Stringer came off the board right after him. No! THEN, the very next year they drafted Tshimanga Biakabutuka instead of Eddie George! GTFOH. I haven't been that mad at some draft choices since the Hornets drafted Rex Chapman with their first ever pick. It just felt the same to me. I knew those were terrible choices then. I'd been a Dallas Cowboys fan for 18 years before the Panthers were even born It was hard to sway me with horrible draft choices like the ones they had in the beginning of the franchise. I wasn't impressed. Don't get me wrong, I'm born and raised here. I root for the Panthers, until they play my team. I've rooted for the Panthers since their inception. I just haven't gotten over those first draft choices. That was the time to get me. They failed to do so.

Former cowboy fan.  I've been a Panthers fan since it was announced that Charlotte was getting a NFL franchise.  I

remember thinking about what the team name, logo and colors would be.  The name and colors that I was thinking of was the

Carolina Panthers with a black panther logo and the team colors would be black, blue(Carolina) and silver.  Everything

except the type of blue(electric) was what the official name, colors and logo turned out to be. It was nice to see this region of

the country be represented in the national dialogue about the NFL.

Now, I especially like hearing and reading about how people became fans who doesn't have ties to the Carolinas. What

attracted them.  I'm a homer so I understand a homer's point of view, but what's the draw for people who have other options.

You can only measure a true fan by whether or not you bought tickets during Jimmy Clausen's time. I did. Have been a fan since the teams inception.

I remember the build up to getting the team.  Before the Panthers I didn't follow much NFL.  I was a big college football and basketball fan and a Braves fan.  My first game was the Dallas playoff game.  I've been to about 10-15 games over the years and have never been to one where we lost.

What really won my heart was the 2 year outhouse to the penthouse years of 2002 and 2003.  Going 1-15 to going to the Superbowl was awesome.  I don't think I've ever missed a game although one time I did cut it off in the 3rd quarter when Jimmy Clason was at QB.

Before. Wasn't much of a sports fan in high school but in 2002 I got into it and threw everything behind the Panthers. Wasn't really much of a bandwagon to hop on to. Hate that the Bengals game was blacked out that year, listened to Steves two punt returns on the radio.

Lol yep, people won't admit it but over half this board are Cam fans. This doesn't just include the Auburn/fanboys, it includes the people who stopped watching or never really watched the Panthers until now, or with Cam. Those are post-Newton fans as well. and no, the Cam wagon fans are NOT long gone, they are here...until Cam leaves or starts to suck. They are fans of the Panthers because they are a fan of Cam, not a fan of Cam because they are a fan of the Panthers.

3 votes vs 183 LOL
