The Kicker that shall not be named: This looked and felt stupid AF. Kasey was cut over politics. He was the Player Rep for the team and showed up during the lockout. "The Kicker" was really just a guy and Hurney paid him like he was a HOF dude.

This contract also likely kept Atlanta from playing in the Superbowl last season and that has a ton of value to me.

DWill and Stew: This was a deal by a guy that wasn't paying attention to the league. These two contracts are awful and no excuse is valid enough to hold water. Maybe he thought 2008 was right around the corner? Maybe he thought ...fug I don't know what he was thinking. Had we let Williams walk we would have likely gotten a 3rd or 4th round comp pick that could have been spun into a RB to replace Stewart after his contract was up or better yet complement Stewy while started under a more reasonable contract. It's almost as if Hurney didn't even look up from his glass of scotch and notice the trends in the NFL.

"The Kicker" = Starts with an O and an M?

CJ's big money kept ATL out of the superbowl?  Via, them not having a top D?

Do you think maybe DWill's deal was pushed by JR because DWill is such a "high character" guy? That's kind of what I always thought...

Great write up btw.

Yes

Yes, they signed Ray Edwards as a consolation prize and he is out of the league.

Yes and he was a fan favorite.

Haha, you guarantee it?

How about countering with a sound argument and reason instead of a useless guarantee?

Gettleman came here to cleanup our problems and get this franchise back in order. Deangelo and Stewart IS one of those problems. He's already traded Beason and cut James Anderson and Gamble in his first year alone.

Well, if your reasoning behind Kasey being cut is true, that's a giant dick move by JR.

Based on DWill's popularity and character, I can see them giving him a contract like they did... even if we don't agree on the amounts and all... the JStew deal is the much more puzzling of the two... esp with his injury potential.  They had to know at the time he wasn't as durable as some.

Yes, it's a mess, but it would cause more harm than good in 2014.

He won't attempt to fix a mess by causing a bigger one.

Look for one if not both to leave in 2015.

there's nothing puzzling about stewart's deal. i warned people after williams got his contract that stewart would make just as much or more to stay on carolina's roster.

despite his injury concerns at the time, stewart was performing just as well and in some cases better than williams. in a short period with limited timeshare, stewart quickly set franchise records and is well within reach to be the franchise leading rusher the minute williams is isn't on the roster.

He's gonna set records when he's getting injured while not even taking most of the payload? WHAT!?

That's likely the plan.

Both can be cut almost painlessly in 2015, then Cam can be signed as well.

Getts has a plan....I think....

Ironically enough the biggest contract (Johnsons) could likely be the one that can save us the most money in another restructure next year.

His cap number jumps to 16 million next season, mainly because his base salary jumps up to 8mill per that season and the two seasons after it.

We could cash out a portion of that money and add 2 years to his deal, carrying him to 32  Could free up a good bit of space this way. This makes sense to CJ as well, considering he will couldn 17 million against the cap in 2015

His 2013 restructure did this ::::Restructured 2013 salary from $6.75 million to $1.07 million with Carolina   . So he got 5 mill in cash that was spread out on the remaining 3 years of his deal. Just a quick bandaid redo.
