Given that Alabama lost to Auburn all 4 years Shula coached Alabama no wonder he was sad. Likely one of the reasons he was fired. Huge in-state rivalry

Pretty much. It's no secret that Barkley is a big supporter of Auburn athletics (especially football). Apparently, Shula is still despised in Alabama for his tenure.

Problem for him was that the bar was set so high and you have to beat Auburn.

Yep, and he underwhelmed. The culture over there is even if you've lost every game till that point in the season you have to not just beat Auburn but obliterate them. Losing to their 'little brother' for four years in a row must have sucked monkey balls. It's the equivalent of us getting swept by The Saints.

Fair point but Shula remains fresh in the fans' hearts over there. That said, the kicker might have overtaken his spot recently.

Sounds like a shout out, not a shot??? Or am I not getting the irony or whatever?

As in, when Alabama died?

definitely a shout out.

definitely not a shout out.

barkely = auburn alum (pretty common knowledge if you followed him or his career at all)

auburn and alabama is a huge rivalry.

shula sucked as a head coach.

shula sucking as a head coach = more wins for auburn.

shula getting fired from bama = sad day for auburn fans who enjoyed the gimme every year that came from shula ball.

that's kind of like us being sad when a sucky coach from the NFCS gets fired.

Shula is going to be fired after we've had more blowouts in a single season than ever before? And before you say defense keep in mind we aren't winning these games by scoring 14 points to their 13.

is there a new thread made every time someone says anything remotely related to the panthers?

I think most of us are pretty easily entertained and/or distracted by trivial quips and factoids, so yeah, sounds good.

You don't actually want us to think about real-life important stuff, do you?

Who does? The Huddle is for smack talk, hot women and discussing a promising squad that gives us heart palpitations on a weekly basis.
