He food is the fans.  As the game progresses and the Kraken gets more energy from the fans the tighter he gets.  Why do you think he wanted fans to come to Atlanta?  Watch our home game with a loud crowd.  You will feed him and he will give you sacks and power plays.

He disappears too often for me. He had 10 sacks in 3 games and 5 in 13 games. I'd like to see more consistency.

So does Julius Peppers .. and we almost payed him 100+ mill.

Getting sacks aren't the only measurement in judging a DE.  Jared Allen used to feast on Chicago and Minnesota.  Which in turn padded his numbers.  Mario Williams probably the highest paid DE in the league got 13 sacks.  4.5 were against us.

Hardy is top 5 in sacks, tackle for loss, quarterback pressures.

He is also top 5 in run stop percentage amongst DE's.

He is versatile and more importantly only 25 years old.  He is could possibly be getting even better.

Good god. I never said anything about not paying him. Only I'd like to see more consistency. If he can manage that he could lead the league in sacks next year.

name one DE that doesn't disappear at times.

Just one, and back it up with the stats, please.

It's not a problem with just him. Everyone disappears. You act like I just kissed your girl friend or something. Relax. Pay him, keep him, and do something no team has done and win the NFC south two years in a row. Oh yeah, get more consistency from Hardy and he will have 25 sacks.

the problem is you base a DEs production on sacks.

in the end, sacks are the icing on the cake.

I'm basing it on what everyone else's argument seems to be. Sacks are icing on the cake, yes. You can see the influence of our entire line on the number of interceptions we had this year. I'm just saying, if we have a game similar to the Saints and lay an egg then it will all be for naught.

Honestly, until the New Orleans game, I looked at The Kraken as a luxury that we weren't going to be able to afford next year. A great player coming into his own, but not able to justify tying that much of our cap into him and CJ. We need to find a WR, lock up Cam and Luke, and have holes to fill at CB and on the OL as well. I viewed Hardy as a guy that is about to cash in as he is entering his prime and coming off a huge season. That being said, he wreaks havoc and adds an edge to this defense that I've only seen from players like Ray Lewis, LT, Randle, Greene, etc. it's a level of fear when the ball is snapped that opposing offenses can't contain. Given his age, all-around skill set and athleticism, I think Getts has to figure out a way to retain him. I am now a believer that he is emerging as an elite DE in this league and we NEED him next year. I think a pow-wow between Gettleman, Rivera, Hardy, CJ, Luke, and Cam needs to happen and if each one takes a few million less than what they could get on the market, we could have a dynasty like fun over the next 4-6 years in the NFC. Cutting DeAngelo and letting LaFell walk should free up space too.

It's very possible the Panthers let him try the open market. However, he may not cash in like teammate Charles Johnson did in 2011. With no one willing to pay Hardy the high salary he is demanding, He would then settle for a reasonable deal that locks him up  with us for a long time. I don't think the ultra high DE market is there anymore, and Hardy genuinely loves this team. He would likely take slightly less for a longer contract.

However,a desperate team with a desperate front office could  decide to break the bank and make Hardy their cornerstone player. He could  appear to be the pass rush that team always had wanted, and be the missing piece towards their offseason glory. I could really see franchises with 2014 cap space like the Raiders,Bears,Redskins,Browns and willing to make such a splash to make him the face of their defense.  I certainly hope this doesn't happen but all it would  take is one team.

I could see the Raiders licking their chops to land him!
