No. $82M for 6 years is his current projection

sportrac's contract forecast for hardy is based off of his 2011 and 2012 seasons...

it was calculated before this season began.

He disappears too often for me. He had 10 sacks in 3 games and 5 in 13 games. I'd like to see more consistency.

LOL

Honestly, until the New Orleans game, I looked at The Kraken as a luxury that we weren't going to be able to afford next year. A great player coming into his own, but not able to justify tying that much of our cap into him and CJ. We need to find a WR, lock up Cam and Luke, and have holes to fill at CB and on the OL as well. I viewed Hardy as a guy that is about to cash in as he is entering his prime and coming off a huge season. That being said, he wreaks havoc and adds an edge to this defense that I've only seen from players like Ray Lewis, LT, Randle, Greene, etc. it's a level of fear when the ball is snapped that opposing offenses can't contain. Given his age, all-around skill set and athleticism, I think Getts has to figure out a way to retain him. I am now a believer that he is emerging as an elite DE in this league and we NEED him next year. I think a pow-wow between Gettleman, Rivera, Hardy, CJ, Luke, and Cam needs to happen and if each one takes a few million less than what they could get on the market, we could have a dynasty like fun over the next 4-6 years in the NFC. Cutting DeAngelo and letting LaFell walk should free up space too.

It's very possible the Panthers let him try the open market. However, he may not cash in like teammate Charles Johnson did in 2011. With no one willing to pay Hardy the high salary he is demanding, He would then settle for a reasonable deal that locks him up  with us for a long time. I don't think the ultra high DE market is there anymore, and Hardy genuinely loves this team. He would likely take slightly less for a longer contract.

However,a desperate team with a desperate front office could  decide to break the bank and make Hardy their cornerstone player. He could  appear to be the pass rush that team always had wanted, and be the missing piece towards their offseason glory. I could really see franchises with 2014 cap space like the Raiders,Bears,Redskins,Browns and willing to make such a splash to make him the face of their defense.  I certainly hope this doesn't happen but all it would  take is one team.

I could see the Raiders licking their chops to land him!

Hardy just gives us an advantage most teams would kill to have. Even more so at a premium position like DE

5 sacks in thirteen games. I believe that through 10 or so weeks last season he had 6 with 3 coming in one half. Maybe have been 2011.

I'm basing it on what everyone else's argument seems to be. Sacks are icing on the cake, yes. You can see the influence of our entire line on the number of interceptions we had this year. I'm just saying, if we have a game similar to the Saints and lay an egg then it will all be for naught.

the Saints held our guys all game long. So we should not pay our guys cuz there going to be games where their going to get held and not get their production that they normally get.

Gotchs.

Yeah, duh. But without our DTs all DEs would be mediocre. So before lol'ing at my post for stating the obvious, give credit to the less obvious contribution of Star, Dwan, Kawaan, and Colin. Without them we would've been looking at another 6-8 sack season. Safety play has been a real help too.

Pay the man. He is a beast and has tons of energy. He is the type of player this team needs to hold on to. Did you see how elated he was after the game yesterday during his interview? Guys like Hardy and Mitchell bring an attitude that every team needs. Thank god we have them both right now and hopefully will keep both.

Not only does Hardy produce lots of sacks... but he shows up during the big games, when the team needs him the most.

He reminds me of the #90 that shall not be mentioned... but actually shows up when we need him to, and is very fired up and agressive and gets the team fired up with him.

We absolutely can not let him get away. It is like the Colliseum in Rome in a way... He has won the crowd as fans, and it is up to us to make sure that Jerry Richardson knows that we need this guy on our football team.

To be honest, I think he is a special talent. He is not a guy that you can just 'replace' in the draft.
