It's not all about free agency... it's about cap relief. A lot of people aren't aware of this but this is the first year that the Bobcats have gone into the luxury tax... Most small market teams don't like spending money which is why a small market team could easily decide to trade a bad contract or a couple of bad contracts to get some cap relief.
Gordon's contract could also be super helpful to a team that is trying to tank (L.A. Lakers, Chicago, Toronto).
Gordon's contract might be able to pry Boozer from Chicago.
We're above the cap but about $10 mil UNDER the tax line.
And no cancers please, we don't need Smith. Stay the course, hopefully we keep our pick and get Detroit's too (currently 9th).
With the repeater tax looming, teams should be more willing to take on expirings like Gordon. If not, oh well, between he and Sessions that's $18 mil + in space for FA.
