ItsNotGonnaBeAlright 4,998 Report post Posted January 15, 2014 As it stands, I'm all for the tag and trade idea for Greg Hardy. I love what the guy brings to the team and if a deal gets worked out to keep him here, fantastic. However, the kind of money he's earned would hold the team back, and the cap situation we're in kind of demands we'll have to find most of our long term solutions in the draft. Extra picks would be nice, and we haven't had a high caliber player worth pulling this kind of move with in a while. So, I think it works out best to trade him. Question is, to who? Peppers90 NC 3,537 Report post Posted January 15, 2014 But if we tag him we are hit in cap space by the tag price which is 10mil for a DE right? 12.8 to be exact, and i doubt it or no one would do it
carolina-chuck 2,761 Report post Posted January 15, 2014 Oakland, Jacksonville, and Cleveland. They're the only three team with high picks or more than enough picks that can afford to sign Hardy to a long term contract. All three are in top 5 with the most cap if Im correct. Not just that, all three are AFC teams and in need of a pass rusher like Hardy.

bLACKpANTHER 3,583 Report post Posted January 15, 2014 Cleveland signed Kruger from Baltimore last offseason. Doubt they swing for the fences again on a DE in Free Agency
Kurb 4,987 Report post Posted January 15, 2014 But if we tag him we are hit in cap space by the tag price which is 10mil for a DE right? Not if he is traded. You tag a player and that 12.8 goes against your cap space, if you trade that player inside the franchise tag framework the team that signs the player gets the picks. Personally I hope we use the non-exclusives rights tag on Greg. It allows teams to work out a deal with him, then we either match the deal or they give us some picks. I think the Raiders would be ideal for Greg. It takes him out of the NFC and out of our hair for a bit, not to mention he would immediately become the icon of that defense for the next few years. Jacksonville could use some hype as well. I want the best for both parties here, Greg to get a fair deal and the Panthers to either have him or in position to make the loss of him much less damaging. With our lack of cap, plethora of needs, getting compensation for Greg could be everyones best option.
