As far as franchises I really love:

-Final Fantasy: Played since the NES days, though I haven't been as interested since FF7... But those games, including the gameboy games, have been epic in my life.

-Halo - I love it. Other's don't. It's cool to agree to disagree. I feel like 343 can keep the game fun, and improve as they continue forward.

-Everquest. C'mon man! How did anyone not play this game? Heck, SoE is STILL MAKING EXPANSIONS! PEOPLE STILL PLAY! ZOMG! There are a number of better MMOs out there, but its hard to beat the bredth of the entire series. Kind of nuts.

see as far as all around quality goes I love halo, let's be honest has there been a bad halo game yet(not counting handheld), no there hasn't. But it's to this day still not my favorite multiplayer game of all time on the xbox, Mech Assault wins that title(this and Halo 2 are the only games I've played longer then a year exclusively) unfortunately they destroyed in it MA2 so bad it killed the franchise.

Halo also while being all around quality, has done nothing original and nothing game changing(PSC is right about this) that's why Mass Effect is also my favorite franchise between the two. And why Final Fantasy takes the cake, I think best franchise isn't just about what's popular COD has sold a bijilion copies but no one unless they're 12 would think it's an all time great franchise, it's about what has been a game changer, what was so far out and above the rest that it was a shock when released and FF has not done that just once but at least 3 times in its history.

Mario and Zelda probably had the biggest impacts on gaming.

But today's games are pretty damn good.

I like three types of games. RPGs, sports, or games with good stories to tell.

Naughty Dog has been crushing it with great cinematic type games like Uncharted and Last of Us.

Read Dead Redemption was one of my favorite games of all time.

RPG games don't get much better to play than Elder Scrolls or Mass Effect.

Oh, and I probably played Star Wars:  Knights of the Old Republic all the way through 20 times.

For some reason I don't like first person shooters, so I have never really been able to get into the Halo or Call of Duty games.

Halo 2 was horrible imo. It was way too rushed and felt very incomplete... especially in the campaign that just abruptly ended.

Uh halo 2 was the best one...

Perfected online console gaming and basically laid the blueprint for Xbl to work properly. Also what it brought to e sports and how to was the corner stone for MLG for years alone makes it one of the best games of all time. One of the most competitive console fps' ever made

Gears of War, by far, my favorite.

Mario/Zelda most likely.

But GTA/Red Dead is very strong.

I think that Mario/Zelda changed gaming forever, and so did the well done sandbox's of GTA and Red Dead.

If you were voting for just one, I'd say it'd have to be Mario.  Is there any game series more prolific?

(Madden would have to be a strong contender though)

While Mario is without a doubt the GOAT. I'd make an argument for Metal Gear Solid as a close second. Revolutionized the gaming industry with it's storytelling, in game cinematics as well as it's gameplay. Also the boss fights were epic.

Yeah but the multiplayer was outstanding, Pretty much the best multiplayer game till Halo 3 and COD4 on the xbox. and that's a long time being the best.
