top dawg

David Newton ranking our 21 FAs by importance (updated 21 thru 5)

Why has Clausen's name been coming up so much? Am I wrong or didnt the team cut him?

from the Team page on the Panthers site:

TRANSACTIONS

Placed on injured reserve with an injured right shoulder by Carolina (9/1/13)...Waived/injured by Carolina (8/31/13)...Selected in the second round (48th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft by Carolina (4/23/10).

waived/injured is not the same as waived. When he passed through waivers he was defaulted to our IR. So yes, he's been on our teams IR all year.

I have a hard time believing that Bruce Campbell (UFA,  not yet listed) would be ranked higher than the names already mentioned (except Pickles).

hmm... top probably something like...

1.Hardy

2.Mitchell

3.Gross

4.Ginn

5.Captain

#5 is hard, because I think what Mikell brings to the defense is underrated on this board sometimes, but Captain is too.

#3 is primarily because of our how many FAs we have on the OL as it is and how weak it is.  The draft could change this, and I think losing Ginn would be a huge mistake.

#4 I think is a lock to come back, along with #2.  The others, I'm not sure on.

I put Gross at number 1.  He's a quality LT and we have NOBODY to replace him, nor do we have the $$ to sign a top LT.  He wants to finish a Panther and will probably sign for less than he deserves.  Get him signed now.

I would rank Florence higher at this point simply based on our need at the position.

If he's seriously considering retiring it will be hard to bring him back.

1 GROSS

2.Hardy

3.Mitchell

4.Gano

5.Cole or Hixon

Finding a replacement for Byron Bell gives the offense an automatic boost

I may not be chomping at the bit to re-sign him, but LaFell behind guys who barely played like Hangman, J. Williams, and Connor is kind of a joke.

I'd say most of the guys at the bottom of the list are considered pretty expendable.

Of the names listed, laFell and Florence would be surprises.

LaFell second worst?  Only Jimmy Clausen less valuable?

Ouch

At first that seemed absurd, but the fact is Lafell is supposed to be our clear cut #2 option.  When Smith missed the Falcons game, Lafell was almost invisible.  That tells me that he is so far from being a #1 option, he can't possibly be a solid #2.
