When I bought my car, at least 3 people in the dealership asked me if I needed a job and wanted to come work there. Is it possible they have higher turnover than we do?

I don't think I could do it- as nice as it would be to have people walking into my dealership, I couldn't deal with the wishy washyness. Also, talk about customers who are convinced they know more about your product than you do. With the way online car sales have become so prevalent, it seems very challenging.

The only positive thing I heard out of it was that I could legitimately say to a man "what, you can't afford that?" with a smile on my face and still manage to get a sale out of that.

sigh, so many people I would love to say that to now.

Props to you for getting into it LP.

Just got back from a week vacation so I am back to being a happy salesperson.....for the moment.

Is it a fun job to be a salesman? And do you make good money? What do you major in?
I don't really know much about the field at all

Is it fun?  Do you like being repeatedly kicked in the nuts?  If so than this job is for you!

So....March marks 1 year in car sales (or sales period) for me.  Have stayed with the same company but my third location (came to number 3 in Nov).  Various reasons for changes...mostly was management support and opportunity.  So, as of today...I am 1 car away from my best month ever. If I can sell 4 more cars by the end of the month, I get a very good bonus.  And...I am in the lead for sales person of the month. (Which gets another bonus)

I like where I am because we have good products and believe it or not...the managers are honest and expect the same from the sales staff.

Bad news is...weather is turning crappy.  On the positive...last week of the month is usually the best.  Hope latter can counter the first.

Please wish me luck....I need it.  Send good vibes my way.

Yes it's fun. But I love finding new prospects and selling them on my company and product. You can make as much money as you are willing to work for. I like the autonomy of sales and I hate being in an office or behind a desk so outside sales is fuging awesome IMO. I majored in marketing (LOL). Majoring in marketing is like majoring in cheese.

This is why I never even finished my degree.  I was already working full time and the door opened up for a sales position at my company.  17 years later and I'm still going strong.  Most sales jobs don't even require a degree unless it's a very technical position.  My current job said 4 year degree required but once they interviewed me and realized I knew the business very well they could care less about the degree.  I even pointed it out to them at the beginning saying I didn't want to waste their time if that was a deal breaker.

lol, major in anything you want. don't major in anything.....doesn't make a difference really. some higher level sales jobs require certain degrees or education (ie medical, chemical, etc), but a lot of the time experience can outweigh that as well.

bottom line, you can be in sales and be borderline ruhtarded. as long as you know your product, have confidence in it, and can talk to people reasonably and be personable, you're good to go.

With as easy as that sounds, I have some fuging stupid ass people that work with me and will never be let go for one reason or the other, but its never that they are great at their job. SUCH. A. WASTE. of a salary, and personnel, and benefits, and life in general.

LP- Good luck!! hope you got my response to your message, I see now you have 1 year of experience and sounds like you are killin it- shouldnt have any trouble getting a new sales gig.  Maybe SCP will hire you.

Been a slow month around this area for sales. I just need 1 more to get the extra 5% on the backend. But this weather hasn't helped my case.

My company is looking for a PROFESSIONAL salesperson to break open our local market (Charlotte) as well as traveling from MD to FL for surveys/sales. We are a specialty commercial flooring manufacturer that offer turnkey installations for restaurants among other apps.

I have a baby due in May and have taken a non traveling position.
