The Perception of Luke Kuechly (outside of the Carolinas)

The reality is this was basically a 4 man debate.  You generally need to be a winner to be considered for DPOY (unless you have a freakishly unreal season).  It was basically between Sherman, Thomas, Keuchly and Mathis.  I think many of the voters considered Keuchly to have shouldered a bigger load than these guys (or they've actually watched his tape).

Then you got more niner and hawk fans butthurt along with the ever popular "he isnt even the best LB in his division joke (i assume its a joke because people cant possibly believe Lavonte David is better.)

I think the main reason that he has such a negative perception from fans is because he is such a humble guy. He hardly ever makes headlines with what he says and thats all ESPN is anymore, they are a gossip site. They choose to market players who give good soundbites and Luke rarely does.

It could also be the fact we are a small market team, but i think the main thing is the only time we really were in prime time in the nations eyes(the NE game) all people remember about him is the hold that didnt get called. OR is it the fact people are looking for the spectacular and not the consistent?? Luke had a ton of tackles in the pro bowl, but i hardly heard him mentioned since he doesnt draw attention to himself when he makes a great play. Sooner or later he will get credit from other fan bases, but until then all people will remember about him is the holding call on Gronk.

Am i wrong? Do you guys think others respect him and im just nit picking?

I love Luke and think he's a great kid but you seriously don't understand how ESPN works do you? How do you know he's really humble? Maybe it has less to do with him having humility and more to do with those in the sports media knowing their audience and what can really rile them up...Like a QB who walks with confidence or wears a towel on his head.

Otah was damn good when he played. He just lacked the motivation to come back from his series of injuries, so I don't think you could consider him a "miss".

Had Sherman or his FS pal been on different teams on of them would have likely won.

If Luke can clean up his coverage to match his tackling ability he will win this every year.

Otah was a great pick he would have solidified our RT position for a long time if it wasnt for his injuries and him not being able to handle it. Doubting his play is just pure ignorance. That wasnt the problem, nobody had an issue with Otah until he caught the injury bug.

No coach he's ever had, from Fox to Rivera to even Rex Ryan, said he did anything besides work his ass off. This 'motivation' stuff is purely fan speculation.

It could be that he just had bad knees that weren't injured by his emotions.

It's hilarious simply because Kuechly does the combined work of both Bowman and Willis in the 4-3. Bowman typically drops into coverage while Willis blitzes and attacks the ground game.

I disagree... a players desire to play should be accounted for even given injurys... beason for instance was constantly injured but had the drive and desire a first rounder should have... otah simply gave up... my two cents and I respect yours as well.
