"Matt's an excellent quarterback. But he's not elite. He's this close" Recently retired Atlanta Falcons TE Tony Gonzalez to @ESPNMag Wonder if he gave up on him as their season went in flames like a dumpster fire this year? Can't help but feel good about our QB situation. Now to get a #1 wide out.

Finally someone speaks the truth about the little overrated twit. It's great that it's Gonzo, no less.

However he meant it he should know better than to give the media a sound bite like that.

Before you can put this in context you have to know what his definition of elite is.  He might not put Cam or many other quarterbacks outside of the usual 4 or 5 in that category.

why? Cause you think so?

He no longer has a company line to consider.
He is ready to move on from football.

So now he isn't entitled to his opinion?

If he's not elite with the weapons they had for years, he's certainly not going to be elite now.

That may well be but the best thing Tony Gonzalez could have done is to have said nothing at all, especially since Matt Ryan had been his QB all those years. I was sort of surprised to read that he said this.

That's why you don't pay players like matt ryan elite money. The falcons will be stuck with an above average qb who will get them some wins but won't be able to mask the flaws of the rest of the team due to the space matt ryan's salary cap fills up. Good Job atlanta. LOL

If he didn't retire, would he have said this?

Well he's being payed elite money. If his team doesn't go to the playoffs his salary will be a big reason, because matt ryan is carrying no team.

Only three?

Out of  P. Manning, Brady, Brees and Rodgers, who did you leave out?

only manning and brady are in the playoffs EVERY year since the last 12+ seasons despite who is injured or deficiencies on their teams.  Rogers is getting there as well.  If you label too many guys as elite, well is elite really elite?
