Not that Nascar is a "mans" sport, but generally, with the exception of drag racing, women have not done that well in racing.

Nascar is going down the tubes anyway so I guess they will continue to morph the sport into something with more storylines.

I understand their diversity drive which is good, but seems sort of like having women work as drivers, might not be more than window dressing.

Danica is a very small gal, as are most male drivers, not sure if it is a stamina issue or just not enough nerve or what as far as competitiveness, but this will certainly give Nascar more to talk about since their sport has little excitement elsewhere.

What's funny is you could read his comments and change "Danica" to "Dale Jr" and the truth would still hold. He's nothing but a popularity piece. He's a mediocre driver. He has the best equipment and team and still can't win anything.

Still, it was a dick move by Petty. I guess since he racked up all those wins against no competition all those decades ago it gives him a superior opinion.

I wouldn't say Danica being a female or small has anything to do with it. The male drivers are very small, too. Jeff Gordon is 5'7 150lb. Jimmy Johnson is one of the bigger drivers and he's only 5'11 165lb.

NASCAR is in no way, shape or form "going down the tubes." They have an annual revenue of $3,000,000,000 and a yearly TV deal worth $473,000,000. It's the most watched sporting event on FOX, even over the NFL. Across all TV it's only surpassed by the NFL. 2013 was the highest ratings in reaching history, and they had higher ratings than the NBA Finals and World Series.

Take a look at the stands next time you see a race.  Half of the seats are empty.

Money is good now, but it is chasing a dying sport.

Money is good now, but it is chasing a dying sport.

Stands are packed for Daytona, Bristol, Talladega, etc.

Why would people pay $100 to go sit on a metal bleacher for 3 hours in 95° summer heat where they can only see one small portion of the race at a shitty angle...

When they can sit in their living room & watch on a 60" HDTV & see all the good angles & views.

It's not chasing money, tv deals will only continue to increase.
