Seattle didn't need him with Baldwin and Kearse developing the way they did.  Why pay a guy 8 million a year when you've hit the jack pot and have two guys on rookie contracts playing lights out football?  Seattle did the right thing.  They put him on the shelf and they won with cheap guys so Seattle virtually loses nothing with Rice gone.   Seattle is very deep at WR...it's ridiculous.

Given that he was just released and has the "always injured" label attached to him, I would think he'd have to take a substantial paycut to stay around.

I doubt it will be as significant as you think. His name alone puts him at the top of available WRs now.

Considering Smitty is the only WR under contract I think it would be a decent gamble.

Wrong! Mcnutt & King are under contract

I could see him signing a cheap 1 year deal to come home to the Carolinas and prove his worth.  If he doesn't work out, just cut him in training camp.  I don't think he'll end up with another massive deal at this stage in his career, but if he puts up a big year somewhere on a 1 year deal, he might get one a year later.

This is the nfl... As fans a big not applies not to gms.

The guy had one big year and a bunch of injurys he is a big bodied wr who is at his best playing highball (not rws strength).

I bet you he plays somewhere next season on a one year deal for 3-4 million.

I want him solely because we only had 2 former Gamecocks on the team this past year.

@PFF: Rice will shoot to near top of FA WR rankings. Played well in '12, showed top end talent with elite '09 & only 27. Likely need prove it deal
