Bigger loss in the locker room IMO. Thought we'd take a tackle in the first round and I think this reinforces that. However, Gettleman has said that free agency is a tool to allow yourself to take the best player available in the draft and I think he'll find someone in free agency, at least in terms of depth. This is a tough loss but some youth may not be so bad.

Gettlemagic Spell for an Offensive Line:

  • Double dip on DTs first 2 picks in draft when OT/OG is a need
  • Reach on  "project" O-lineman with last viable draft pick
  • Neglect O-line rest of draft
  • Neglect O-line in free agency
  • Sign mediocre former Panther to "sure up" the line
  • Convert Defensive Tackle to starting O-lineman
  • Say sacred incantation of hope that aging LT plans to stick around

Abra-Ka-Fuggin-Dabra!

Gettleman has a lot to prove this year. He mismanaged (to put it gently) our O-line last year, and set us up for this clusterfug this year. Don't hate Gross for leaving this year, because if he did, for all we know, Gettleman would have put off fixing the line another year, and next year Gross would be asked for, "just one more year, dude! Come on! Be cool! One more year. I swear we'll fix it this year."

Cam doesn't deserve this poo man. He really doesn't

No run game? Weak WRs? and a pooty OL?

Doesn't matter if we are the 85 Bears D. Cam needs help and we don't look to be able to address it for 2014. A shame.

It was clear when Gross restructured last offseason he was most likely done.....

This isn't curve ball to deal with

yep. we all knew that this was likely. probably more so for those involved with the team. it should be no surprise and far froma blind side. i'm sure gettleman has already been scouting and planning anticipating that gross was done.

We overachieved behind a patchwork line. And wouldn't have done so if we didn't have a QB who could evade pressure. And we got abused and embarrassed in our playoff game, in large part because of our O-line.

Any team can have a good year as a fluke. What matters to me, and I think most, is if we are able to compete this year and make another run at the playoffs. Do you think we have the tools and talent to do that right now? Our entire offense is a gap. The whole thing. We lose 1 key piece, and potentially a second, and our O is now a 1-man band.

Who do you blame for that if not the GM?

Don't quote the record when we're one Smitty retirement from being completely screwed this season.

I dont think this changes anything. WR is still the biggest need. If the guy is there you take him and sign the OL later.

The answer at LT is in FA not the draft in my opinion.

FML. Why now Jordan?

he finished out his contract. he's young and has a young family and he's healthy and able to do it on his own terms and he can do it pretty much with the team in good shape.

seems like for him it's about as ideal a time as possible and the timing for us could be better, but it's not horrible, either. there's several good payers to choose from in FA and the draft.

Well I'll be damned. Person was just on the radio and never said with certainty that this was the case. Oh well.

The more comfortable you get with the idea that Joe Person doesn't know anything until somebody else breaks it, the better off you'll be. He probably hits refresh on his twitter 50,000 times a day so he can get the news out three minutes after everybody else.
