Panthers | Eugene Monroe may be option

The Carolina Panthers are expected to show interest in Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent OT Eugene Monroe if he becomes available in free agency.

If it comes from Aaron Wilson, you can bank on it.

He won't be cheap, but if Gettleman wants to beef up the OL - and I believe he does - then he might be willing to spend to shore up the position. Gross already said the team wanted him back, which indicates Gettleman was prepared to sink a decent bit of cap space into the LT spot to retain Gross. Monroe might be a bit more expensive, but he'd also be a younger option and shore us up long-term.

Not sure where the source is on this, though.

Very true, one of the few guys you can take seriously when he reports something like this

Sarcasm?

In all seriousness this makes a ton of sense (obviously) and would alleviate the terror of the condition of the offensive line. If we can sign him to a backloaded contract with a decent signing bonus this could be very doable.

How good is Monroe? I don't know much about him. Played 5 seasons for the Jags and Ravens, no Pro-Bowls.

No sarcasm at all.

Aaron Wilson is one of the best football reporters around.

Oh ok I just saw he was the sports writer out of Baltimore. I've heard about how good he is but wasn't familiar with his name. Well this is good news then.

We will not be the only ones that show interest in Eugene Monroe. It has also been reported that Tampa Bay,Arizona and no telling who else, will show interest in him.

Aaron Wilson is as good as they come in the business and is a great follow on Twitter.

Monroe is my top LT choice.

It would be a nice move, but the team would probably have to make a few moves before then to be able to afford him and a few other of the Panther's key free agents.

coming from a source such as Wilson, i think this has a lot of smoke to it. plus, he is the Ravens beat writer, the team Monroe last played for.
