Steve Smith out, Roman Harper in. Have I died in my sleep? Is this hell?

He is not even safety anymore more like a LB. Saints fans are laughing at us.

I just read ONE page over on SaintsReport about this and yes ... they are laughing. A lot. They say he sucks horribly and Brees and Payton will abuse him.

Godfrey is a free safety.

Harper is a strong safety.

Exactly. However, it doesn't mean Godfrey is safe. Gettleman could still decide to cut Godfrey.

Too much overreaction. He's cheap and provides veteran leadership to a very young secondary. With our front seven, that's all we needed.

Yep. I despise Harper but a plug-in signing is a plug-in signing. I wanted Mitchell back too but my guess is Mike desired a tad more money (and who could blame him). We'll see how this works out but I wouldn't be shocked to see Harper get the axe or thrive as a run-stopper in our system with Lester filling in on passing downs. It's only mid-March too. I wonder who'll fall onto our laps until then, especially in the draft.

Take away the signing bonus, and he is making 50% over vet minimum. Not a huge amount. At this point in time, he is our best SS. Folks that think Lester is starter material really need to take a step back. Like has been said. Our Safety position has been sad for a long time. If you think Lester solves that problem...

Fug Roman Harper.  He's a piece of poo.  This makes Steve Smiths release even worse.  We cut Smitty and then bring in the bounty head hunting asshole that used to hit him late.  I won't root for that prick.  This is worse than Keyshawn.

This is probably the funniest post of the day. I giggled out loud. Thank you kind sir.

It's going to be very odd to cheer for this dude after so many years of wanting to straight punch him in the throat.

I'm not sure I can do it. Won't boo him per se, but not sure I'll actually muster cheers specifically for him.

Sure bc the Steelers front office has zero eye for defensive talent so they aggresively offered Mitchell a 15 million dollar contract.

Denial disguises more..Mitchell stabalized that secondary the moment Godfrey went down. The blown coverages were fewer and you did not have cbs pointing at Mitchell as to why he was out of position.

No one is saying Mitchell is a top 5 talent in the NFL but that his loss is NOT filled by Harper. Mitchell could stuff the run, blitz and get back just fine. Make a play in the ball? Ehh but he got his share of ints so..

Once again, it's too early to say what will transpire. On paper, it looks horrific because he's a dirty, longtime rival and he's not effective in coverage but Harper's duties and strengths are similar to Mitchell's. Mike may be more athletic but he had his glaring weaknesses. He was schooled repeatedly by TEs (outside Vernon Davis) and big receivers. I will miss his blitzing prowless, hard-hitting and trash talk but he wasn't worth the money he got from The Steelers. Pittsburgh isn't stupid -- they're banking on their pass rush this season too. If it works out, Mitchell will thrive there. If their pass rush is anemic, then we'll see him in the market for another team in 2015.
