Voth has become our new go-to Panther major media source this year.

What shame he puts to those boring monotone local reporters...I forget the name.  Some person...

This part

The Panthers strongly believe the way to sustained success is through developing their younger players. Smith was neither young nor someone they believed they could depend on to help develop younger guys. That all played a part in Gettleman’s football decision.

This part I have heard from tons of people familiar with the team, specifically about Keary Colbert and Dwayne Jarrett. At no point would Smith try to help these guys out. In fact, time and time again he'd go out of his way to make sure they knew the pecking order. He wasn't outwardly cruel to them or anything, just passively a dick.

It probably wouldn't have helped with Jarrett. He was a fuging idiot who everyone knew was a fugtard. Hurney just rolled the dice and hoped for the best.

But Keary Colbert really needed that veteran presence. No one remembers he led all rookies in ypc in 2004 when he had Moose holding his hands. Then Moose leaves, Smith comes back and is like "who the fug is this kid?" On his path to one of the greatest receiving seasons ever, Smith made it known he was the top dog and had no interest tutoring Keary. Smith was still young then sure, and hadn't really had his big maturation moment. But he'd do poo like tell Keary to piss off when he and Delhomme were talking, or calling him out in the film room constantly.

Keary melted down.

I'm sure he mellowed out as he got older, but he still never stepped forward to help guys out. One of the reasons they've never drafted a first round WR is that they were worried how Smith would react.

Voth and David Newton are far better than the Disturber twins.

Funnily though Smith saw Jarrett immediately for what he was. We all remember when he flat out told him to study his playbook more during an interview. Apparently when he went up to introduce himself to Smith (he was told to do this by another member of the team) he stopped mid sentence to answer a text lol.

Smith was like "whelp fug that."

Honestly don't see Hardy leaving unless he poos the bed and still wants top dollar. I think Gettleman wants to see another year of production just to prove it wasn't a one year thing and that he'll keep working hard now that he has $13 Million dollars in his pocket.

Smitty would probably tell you the Wide Receivers Coach gets payed for a reason.

Or perhaps for no reason at all.

You're right, but as a teammate I think you owe it to your guys to step up and help develop, especially when you have that much experience and you claim winning a ring is your ultimate goal.

Not like Proehl, Moose and others didn't help him.

I agree, a teammate can certainly help. Maybe Smitty didn't have it in him, don't know.

Still I'd expect more from a coaching staff if not being Smitty's buddy leads to your failure in the league.

Here is what I got from DG's comments:

1)He is perturbed that Hardy and agent really think he caves Hurney style. Even though he had hoped for a sooner resolution, he knows he still has the upper hand.
2)Godfrey cut is dependent upon who we land in the draft and the Hardy deal. A lot hinges upon a long term deal for Hardy and the rest is a balancing act between dead cap space and roll over.
3)He knows more than us about accurately evaluating talent and has a series of plans in place to adequately fill LT and WR positions
4)Wishes everyone would leave the 2000's and understand we can't live in the past when trying to brighten our future(Steve Smith debacle)
5)He is unapologetic for doing what he thinks is the best job he can possibly do

Makes me think the Panthers PR machine is in high gear.
