Our #1 will be a rookie.

highly doubtful.

I have no doubt a rookie will start for us.

But be all that a true #1 is?
I wouldn't suggest ya hold your breath on that one.

I'll pose the same question to you. Would you rather have our WR corps than megatron? Or aj green?

This is a stupid question.

A better one would be would you rather have AJ Green or Cam Newton.

I would take three mediocre WR's over megatron or Green because that would let us spend all ther money on RB's and DEs......wait , what.

I want the kid from Indiana in the second or third round (Cody Latimer)

What was the topic?

I think Smitty was being paid as a #1 but there were signs that he could no longer fill that void.

A true #1 is a player who produces even when the defense is constantly cheating to his side.  He opens things up for everyone else.  However, the fact that SF, Seattle, Carolina--the elite teams of the NFC--did not have one is interesting.  What they all had was a run-first offense and a good QB.

If you cannot run the ball, the absence of a top WR is more obvious.  For us, the fact that Cam is one of our leading rushers is perhaps not a healthy way to gauge our running attack.  We need to upgrade the OL considerably if we are going with WR by committee.

So, you'd take McNutt, Cotchery, and underwood over megatron?

1. Matt Stafford

2. Calvin Johnson

3. ???

4. SUPERBOWL!

Right?

If you look at the top WRs in the league http://www.nfl.com/f...gs#tabset=pr-wr

There is only about 16 WR1 out there. That means roughly half of the teams out there don't have one.

Did I say they were a good core?

And Megatron is #1 times 10. Teams have #1s that aren't superstars

Even then, I'd rather have 3 good, established, system WRs than one really good one. Spread the ball around

we don't have those.

#1 receiver is as stupid and meaningless as "deep threat". You don't hire a #1 but somebody will become the leading receiver, which was a TE last season. Every receiver is a deep threat.

Greg Olsen is not a deep threat, nor is he going to take us to the promised land. If Greg Olsen and a wide-out corps like we had in 2013 is the best we ever have to offer, then we'll continue getting what we're getting. We fell short for a reason.

I will say this....

A good front 7 made journeyman and backup CB's safeties look like all pro's.

A good OL would do the same thing for our WR's.

Gettleman is right.  You wan't consistency you build from the inside out.

We need consistent play makers on the field. We need guys that will strike fear in opposing defenses, or guys who will---at the very least---sneak up on and burn an opposing defense while it is preoccupied elsewhere. I don't give a poo what number you classify them as, but that's what we need. Sent from my SGH-T989 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app
