Only reay two options with Jefferson in the lineup. Play MKG or go after Deng, James or a similar elite level defender. Not many Sf elite defenders In the NBA that would even be a FA the next two years.

Or play a horrible defensive lineup that can't stop the p&r and gives up 112-114 a game.

Either that or scrap Zeller being a starter the next two seasons and getting a defensive stopper at PF that can move like a Sf... Not anyone but James in this category either.

I'll keep saying this, but MKG literally holds the defense together and has twice has much responsibility of any other player defensively.

If you replace him, you need a sf that can defend at that level if the system and Jeffersoncontinue to be in place and there just isn't many options.

Honestly both of you guys are right. But MKG has to develop some sort of offensive game so he can play 30 minutes a game. Right now he isn't getting the minutes because he is such a liability on offense. But you are right that he is the defensive catalyst for this team and we are 10x better defensively when he is on the court.

I'm just saying if you replace him, it's got to be a player that can fill his role defensively so the defense isn't horrendous.

It can't be a offensive strong, defensively limited player like Hayward. Who isn't a very good perimeter defender. That's all I'm getting at, you just can't replace him with a shooter.

The plan is to hope we have enough cash to entice someone to come to Charlotte.

If we don't the goal is to get back in the playoffs as the sixth or seventh seed and then hope Detroit's pick turns into a top five pick.

Detroit has more talent than us.

Is that why they fired Joe Dumars?

Being that much of an offensive liability totally changes the way a team can game plan their D for the Bobcats. We can't have a SF who hasn't attempted a 3 since January and is shooting 11% from that range.

Which is why we need a pure shooting 2 skiing side him. Hendo exposes MKG as much as MKG exposes himself.

Hairston/MKG would be lethal on both ends.

Talent means nothing if you don't have good coaching and continuity... i.e. New York, Cleveland, Detroit etc.

I understand what you are saying.  But, it is very difficult to give minutes to a strong defenisive player that is so inept on the offensive end.

It is one thing to be a defensive specialist, but you can be only that and get big minutes.

The system is built around having a fast agile defensive specialist on the floor to protect Jefferson in p&r situations. Doesn't have to be a player limited offensively, but they would need to be a defensive stopper first and foremost.

Either that or the system would need to be changed to accommodate for that while still hiding Jefferson on Defense. Defensive stopper would still have to be on the floor but could be at the 2 or 4 instead.

I understand the system.  But that defensive specialist STILL needs to be somewhat of an offensive threat.  Otherwise, they are playing 5 against 4 when we are on offense.

MKG needs to develop at least a marginal offensive game.

. My phone posted a half way done post, I was getting at the fact that it doesn't mean the player has to be completely limited offensively, but still be a defensive stopper.

Hopefully MKG can fix his shot an develop a reliable jumpshot .

MKG just needs to get out of this FT slump, he's finally starting to get a couple calls so even if he can hit like 60% of them I think he can get us 10 ppg in the playoffs. Add that to 7-8 rebounds, a couple assists, and all he brings on the defensive end, he can certainly be an asset in the postseason.

We really don't even need him to score much to be successful with his all-around game and guys like Jefferson, Kemba, Hendo, and Neal hopefully accounting for the bulk of the scoring.

He was actually our second-leading scorer among starters last night (only 8, but that is more telling of the other guys) and added 9 rebounds and 3 assists. The reason we nearly blew this was because Kemba and Hendo couldn't score, so discussing MKG's scoring ineptitude puzzles me.

I wouldn't mind bringing MKG off the bench if we get a star SF in FA. I have defended him forever but at this point I could live with it.
