#2765284 What time will the Carolina Panthers draft their first rounder?

Posted by Riverboat Ron on 07 May 2014 - 03:18 PM

Trick question, Carolina will trade their 1st.

Dis you really dream that?

Yeah, it was weird since I never dream. Took Turner at #60 and Tardif in the 5th.

#2764641 The old Cam Newton/Marcell Dareus debate resolves even more

Imagine if the draft was held in February by the media, we'd have taken Da'quan Bowers with our #1 overall pick.

#2764609 So..if we go defense in R1, who do you like the most?

Posted by Riverboat Ron on 07 May 2014 - 07:11 AM

If Fuller were to fall to us I would literally run to the stage with the pick.

#2763774 Ja'Wuan James at 28?

Posted by Riverboat Ron on 06 May 2014 - 03:58 PM

I was talking about him at LT.

I agree then. :)

I've thought he was horribly underrated through the whole draft process, the only question is can he make the transition successfully.

Where do you see that?

"Surprisingly light feet also stand out while run-blocking, as does his competitive spirit.
Powerful at the point of attack and can drive defenders off the ball"

I watched a couple Tennessee games last year and that was just the feeling I got from watching him. Given, when they had Tyler Bray, Patterson and Hunter they aired out the ball and he was better than Tiny Richardson in pass protection. Maybe I'm looking into it too much, but I just didn't see the mauler show up with James that you'd like at RT in the NFL for running the ball, that paired with the fact he was actually pretty solid in pass protection would make him a better LT than RT.

#2763652 Panthers meet with Ryan Shazier

Posted by Riverboat Ron on 06 May 2014 - 02:59 PM

Not sure I get the Shazier hate. I agree I'd rather grab an OT, WR or CB at 28, but to simply dismiss bpa in a position of some need would be folly. I personally think Shazier is gone by 28, so it probably wont be an issue. As for the hate, watch the tape, he's better than Lavonte David. I wouldn't be surprised if Shazier is off the board at 16 to the Cowboys.

#2761447 Johnny Manziel has his own song/mix on sportscenter

Posted by Riverboat Ron on 04 May 2014 - 08:16 PM

The guy I'd worry about busting the most is Blake Bortles. I really don't understand the hype, sure you see a 6'5" 235lbs prototype QB who put up decent numbers at UCF passing and somehow became a scrambler near the end of the year but some of the comparisons "professional" analysts are making seem to be absurd to me. My favorite comparison is to Ben Roethlisberger, Bortles has half the arm Ben has and most of those "scrambles" he got away with in college would end up with him getting speared by Suh.

The best QB in the draft will be Teddy Bridgewater followed by Manziel if he gets in the right system behind a good OL and a talented WR. I hated Manziel at first when projecting him a couple months back but I believe it's less dependent on talent, which I think he has tons, and more dependent on coaching and teammate talent on offense. He's going to be a hard bust if you expect him to take control of an offense like Cam but if you let him do what he's best at, you'll get a playmaker. I think Bridgewater has been underrated due to a bad pro day. I look at his tape and to me he goes through progressions better than any other QB in the draft, fragility is my biggest worry with him.

Overall I think it matters less about which QB and more about the situation.

Smokescreen, we're taking a blue goose.

#2758763 Mark Carrier will be announcing our 2nd pick in the 2014 Draft

As long as he can pronounce the name of the pick.

With the 60th pick in the 2014 NFL draft, the Carolina Panthers select: Dervantez' Adlams, Fresko State

None, I'm always right.

#2757758 Who's the big slider?

Posted by Riverboat Ron on 01 May 2014 - 01:14 AM

I think Cooks will slip a bit and we will luck into him, if not my money is on Kyle Fuller if he slips or Joel Bitonio.
