In Topic: Would you take Peyton Manning as a first year OC?

Sounds like a great fantasy but I doubt we will ever see him work for this organization in any capacity.

First, let's not start off comparing W/L records for OCs. In the two years Shula has run the offense, he's had the convenience of a defense that almost never gives up a first half touchdown (2013) and playing in a division that nobody really wanted to win. In contrast, with the offense Chud ran in 2011, we would be a wildcard team if the defense wasn't so horribly depleted and lacking. You saw how Shula offenses work when the defense can't stop the offense. We don't hold up in any shootouts but in 2011 we did. In 2012 I feel like the offense regressed like something was missing, because the offense wasn't nearly as efficient by then. Even so, the only reason Chud is gone is not because people in mgmt thought he was incompetent but because Cleveland wants to hire everybody's coordinators and they must have confused us with the patriots for a sec. He'd very well still be here today if the Browns didn't pull that dick move, and the only reason the Colts are blocking his interviews is because you are allowed to do that as long as they aren't interviewing to be head coach. We couldn't do that in our situation because Cleveland was offering a head coaching position to him then.

As far as my preference goes I'd take Chud over Shula if I had to pick one. Chud's offenses were much more productive and contrary to what people sometimes imply, having a shitty offense that scores 17 points per game or whatever doesn't somehow make you a better team. What's been more of a factor in close games is Cam's maturation as a starting QB. He reads the defense a lot better today than he did in 2011, so rather than just going with what was called (which with the exception of read option is what he was doing in '11-'12) he can just pre snap to something better if say for example Chud loses his mind and calls fly routes for everybody on a third and one at midfield.

Don't forget when people make points without fact checking or whatever and get called out on it and then proceed to spend 13 pages reiterating themselves instead of being like "my bad" and ending it there...

I swear half the discussion on here during the draft is people reaffirming points they made periodically (usually when a convenient headline comes up)

I guess I'd prefer NE to win but I'm pretty sure Seattle's going to take this one, though it's going to be a closer game than it was last year
