#2745240 Jonathan Jones answers Panthers draft day questions

Posted by Gallagher on Yesterday, 07:27 PM

Bitonio seems like a reach at 28, but aside from that I agree with most of that article. It reads like a greatest hits of the most reasonable posts on the Huddle over the last three months. All in all, a pretty good assessment of what our franchise is looking at facing this draft.

#2733898 Okay...about that Oline.

Chandler at RT is an interesting idea. I think in the 2nd or 3rd, we can find a day 1 starter, so we can let Chandler and Kugbila compete at RG.

And while, I'm hopeful that this Bell at LT experiment can work (He's right handed guys!), I'm fairly confident that if he doesn't preform we pick up a stopgap vet after TC cuts.

My money is on 3 prime time games: Baltimore Seattle and one of the New Orleans games.

#2712436 Comic about our Free Agency

Posted by Gallagher on 22 March 2014 - 03:06 PM

What a fool! They didn't even talk about our Roman Harper battering ram or our Tiquan Underwood phaser. Still kind of crazy how our team went from 12-4, and probably in the top 5 teams, to the laughing stock of the league with just a couple free agency moves.

#2710502 Has this week calmed your Gettle-fears?

Posted by Gallagher on 21 March 2014 - 01:27 PM

This week has done a lot to calm my fears. Gettleman seems to have gotten doppelgangers for all the role players we lost: Harper for Mitchell, Cason for Florence, Cotchery for Lafell, Underwood for Ginn. Then I imagine he expects either Godfrey or Lester to take over for Mikell, and King or McNutt to take the #4 WR spot of Hixon's.

Now all we need is a number one wide receiver and a left tackle. Those positions aren't important or anything, right? But if we go WR in the 1st and OT in the 2nd or vice versa, I think this team is in a good position, if not better off. So yeah, I'm feeling a lot better this week, then say, the day Steve Smith was cut.

#2705963 Lets be honest the only bad move Getts has made is releasing Smitty

Posted by Gallagher on 18 March 2014 - 11:43 PM

Trading Beason for a 7th was Gettleman's worst move imo. Yeah, we weren't using him in the Mike and no one knew how he would come back from injury, but in retrospect that looks like a total steal for the Giants. Makes you wonder if Getts was trading favors giving them such a cupcake deal.

Getting rid of Smitty is a close second, I could understand if it were a cap thing, or if Smith were really playing that poorly. From everything I've heard though it was just a pissing contest- a showing the team who's in charge move. Five million in dead cap space and not having the greatest Panther ever, who could still be effective in the slot at the very least, does not seem worth having Cam and Luke take on more leadership and not having anyone criticize Mike Shula (God forbid).

#2620565 Is Brandon Williams our answer for a second tight end?

Posted by Gallagher on 17 January 2014 - 08:24 PM

Yes, Brandon Williams is the answer at #2 TE. The issue though is that Mike Shula is not the answer at OC, as he so seldom used two TE sets or any other personnel groupings designed to move the ball far down field.

#2609059 Byron Bell, Brandon LaFell and Melvin White lost us this game

Posted by Gallagher on 12 January 2014 - 04:15 PM

LaFell, tipped ball leading to a pick and key drops, despite good run blocking.

Bell, poor run blocking at 3rd and 4th and short and giving up sacks in the 3rd quarter.

White, poor coverage on Boldin. UDFA from Lousiana LaFayette should not be covering a Super Bowl winning WR. Norman or Thomas would have done better.

Honorable mention goes to Captain, but only because we used him incorrectly as a #1 or #2 corner, when, because of his height, he should only play the nickel.

Those are my thoughts on that game and this team moving forward. I think these are the weakest links on our team, and they need to be addressed. Now, I'm going to do my best to forget this game while still remembering what a good season this has been.

#2601139 Crabtree or Boldin

Posted by Gallagher on 11 January 2014 - 01:13 AM

I disagree.

I think that Captain can and should cover Boldin, as he has the experience. I don't think you can put a rookie on a Superbowl caliber receiver. Even if Captain is shorter, he can still keep up with 81 and hit him at the point of the catch. For Crabtree, I think you need Florence with help from Mitchell's speed over the top and hits at the catch. That leaves any combination of Kuechley, Davis, Mikell and Blackburn to cover Davis, and White on whoever they have in the slot.

That video is awesome. I've watched it twice already, and will probably watch it again before Sunday. Regardless of where we go from here this season has been fantastic.
