#2899078 Why can't Godfrey go back to Safety?

Posted by Beast_3000 on 19 August 2014 - 09:12 PM

Waiting to see who's a better option other then Godfrey from the football gurus.........barring the second coming of Jesus himself being cut he's the best option on the roster at ss healthy so far

The debate stopped because Godfrey and Decoud are better than any other combination of DeCoud at free safety and any other player on our roster playing Strong safety.

They may be able to play Harper on obvious running downs but otherwise Godfrey offers the most versatility.

Decoud can handle the coverage over the top.

I have to admit I am in agreement with WOW! Godfrey has had snow challenges but he would be our best option at Strong Safety. He communicates well and tackles well when he isn't in space.

In the open field he takes a step back with his angles and tackling ability. In my opinion he should at least be given the opportunity to compete at strong safety.

I think he is better than what we currently have competing for strong safety.

I was excited about the blitz pick up. When you can delay a blitz when 6 people are coming up the gut the young guys are doing something right

Kelvin ran a 4.53 in the combine, I wouldn't be surprised if he had a bad day.. KB has blazing speed.

I think his first 20 yard split isn't that fast but I think his stride and top gear are deceptively fast, and that is what seems to set him apart on go routes.

I don't have any proof outside of him blowing past defenders though.
Blowing past defenders that can't catch you has to count for something. :)

He looked really good on the touchdown run where he had to slice through the small opening. He made the all pro linebacker Johnson bounce off and he made another guy completely whiff.

This is where Clayton loses respectability--

"Odds favor the Saints going 5-1 in the NFC South. If they beat the Atlanta Falcons on the road, they could go 6-0."

First of all, what odds maker is paying out if the Saints do not win 5 in the South? With Atlanta, Carolina and even the new-look Bucs in the division, giving any team a preseason 5-1 record at the least is stupid. He is suggesting that the Saints will undoubtedly sweep the 12-4 Panthers. Clayton is drinking all the Kool-Aid about the Panthers and has already dismissed them. He is a media parrot, nothing more.

Reasons for the Saints return to Mt. Olympus? Their DL. Brandon Cooks. The last time I checked, the Panthers have a pretty good DL and a pretty good rookie WR.

If that is his pick he must favor the Aints to return to the Super Bowl, or at least that is the tune he is singing. Won't happen with the parity in the division. In my opinion everyone has improved.

If they went 5 -1 in our division they would have a home game or 2 in the playoffs because I just don't see Seattle or the 49ers ripping through the NFC West this year. The NFC East will not be much improved. The north has Rodgers back. I love the bulletin board material they give our squad. It is typically when the Panthers play their best.

Actually John Clayton wrote that. I should have known.
I respect him.

The theory is probably to intelligent for the Saints beat writer

I haven't been worried about the Saints but I was a little jealous when they went out and signed Jarious Byrd. Found this article from the ESPN beat writer for the Saints. Their weakness happens to collide with our strength. This season will be interesting. Their starting guards and Brees all have small injuries too. When you are in your 30's injuries can become an issue in the NFL.

http://espn.go.com/n...ans-saints-camp

"5. Beware of the "Theory of 150": In 2007, I came up with the "Theory of 150." I was looking at an aging offensive line of the Chicago Bears, who were coming off a Super Bowl loss to Indianapolis. The starting offensive line had a combined age of 159, 31.4 per player. Four starters were in their 30s. Once a line gets that old, major repairs and a major drop-off are looming. I used the same theory for the Washington Redskins, Cowboys and Giants over the next few years.

A theory alert is developing for the Saints. Evans, Zach Strief and Grubbs are currently 30. At center, 35-year-old Jonathan Goodwin is competing against Tim Lelito. Armstead is 23. If Goodwin wins at center, the combined age of the line will be 152. This isn't to say the Saints won't be fine this year, but they are starting to get to the point where they must look toward the future. Payton places more value at guard than at tackle because the 6-foot Brees needs a clean pocket. If the pocket starts to collapse because of age, Brees could struggle."

If our sophomore defensive tackles take the leap we think they can we can disrupt Brees in that clean pocket he loves.

Yea but u dont own a superbowl ring

38 years existence and you brag about 1 Super Bowl ring ????
NFC SOUTH G W L T AVG.
Carolina Panthers 304 144 160 0 .474 1995-
New Orleans Saints 722 317 400 5 .443 1967-
Atlanta Falcons 736 316 414 6 .433. 1966-
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 596 233 362 1 .392 1976-

Since your teams inception you have the WORST winning percentage in the NFC South AND in the NFL

Worse than the freaking Browns...

Your team has been the epitome of bad......

Just crazy ridiculous!

#2862160 Winston says Benjamin blessed to play with Cam

Posted by Beast_3000 on 23 July 2014 - 03:35 PM

Also, when you hear the term 'the next Cam Newton', you already have an image of what type of player that could be. But 'the next Andrew Luck' doesn't bring much to the imagination. He has yet to define what type of player he's gonna be. He doesn't have anything he's great at.

Exactly, great point. Cam won the Heisman, and went undefeated to win a JUCO championship with Blinn as well as division 1 championship at Auburn. I think most realize it's just a matter of time before we surround Cam with the right pieces to seize a NFL championship.
We aren't quite there yet on offense but it is coming. I expect we will see progress on offense this season in the run game and slow improvement in the pass game.

Cam has a lot of street cred among players of all level. It's weird that I never read a young player think highly of Andrew Luck.

I think it's because Luck hasn't won anything yet. He is a very good young quaterback that should go far but he didn't win anything in college and hasn't really won anything substantial in the pros yet.

Most of the other young quarterbacks get their credentials because of championships or top college honors such as the Heisman.
