#2809008 Kaepernick gets mega-deal

Posted by Beast_3000 on 04 June 2014 - 03:25 PM

Guys, Cam isn't going to get anywhere near that. Kaep is on a stacked team but he still was part of 2 NFC title games and a SB. That gave him considerable negotation leverage.

Umm yes he will. If he doesn't he will walk and someone else will pay him that in a few years. No one rates Kapernick above Cam. Even in our playoff game last year they rated Cam as one of our few advantages. Even Harbaugh knows Cam is the more advanced quarterback and passer.

#2804455 Nice thought from Trai Turner

Posted by Beast_3000 on 30 May 2014 - 02:19 PM

I know this is a Turner thread but I think we can be successful if Cam gets a little bit more comfortable throwing on the run. I think the pocket on the inside will hold with Turner, Kalil and Amini. Cam will have to improvise against teams with strong defensive end/ rushing linebacker play.

I know that isn't traditional quarterback play but Cam is capable of punishing teams with so much more. He may have to run more this season until the line builds some chemistry. I just hope they don't hurt our quarterback with this patchwork line, but I think Cam will adapt and overcome as most champions do.

Sounds good. Maybe he will pass that onto the other young guys.

I hope this guy is the steal of the draft. He looks like a smart and powerful man. Amini and him at Guards would be an young interesting line up.

I hope Amini can get his strength, weight and power back in time for mid training camp at the least. He would make me feel comfortable knowing we at least have two solid lineman with experience. Oddly enough I think Turner will be a bright spot and day 1 starter for us this season.

That is probably what we all project and think though. I hope it isn't to big for the 20 year old.

#2801087 Wharton...Chandler will do great things

Posted by Beast_3000 on 27 May 2014 - 12:22 PM

Considering the state of our OL, I find it hard to believe we haven't at least attempted to sign him yet.

I agree wholeheartedly that we should have reached out to him. I just don't think we have. Last year Gettleman said he wanted to see what we have on the roster. He doesn't seem to panic. I assume because he has been around since Moses parted the Red sea. I don't think we have to worry about Wharton signing with anyone else. He has a luxury of being a veteran that has made millions to retire. We have the luxury of being the only team he has legitimately played for. He got hurt and cut in Cincinnati so there is no relationship. If Gettleman needs an emergency tackle I believe we should be able to sign him.

Dude made a highlight reel play while going against Bersin.. slipped his hand underneath and popped the ball up in the air, then caught it and ran. Looks like DG might have found another "diamond in the rough".

That's pretty cool. Just curious were you able to see this at the rookie/undrafted camp or is there a video I can watch?

Ummm... Is it me or do they look like the misfits from that movie The Replacements starring Keanu Reeves.

#2790301 DeAngelo Williams mother passes after battling breast cancer

Posted by Beast_3000 on 16 May 2014 - 06:01 PM

wow, that really sucks. D-Will and his mother is the reason the NFL celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness month. A shame that this story doesn't have a happy ending.

I was just thinking the same thing. He was the pioneer. He asked for permission if I recall and it was granted and the following years other players caught on. Then it became a league thing.

My prayers are with D-Will and his family.

#2787926 Corey "Philly" Brown a name to watch

Posted by Beast_3000 on 15 May 2014 - 08:22 AM

I think they view him as a Jordan Senn replacement.

Agreed. Allen may have a tad more upside if he can put a little weight on and retain his speed.

#2783186 Yahoo Sports has our O-line (positon group) as the "most muddled" pos...

If that is correct it makes his pickup even more valuable considering Byers and Piggy retired. I hope Kalil plays all season since he is the only true seasoned veteran with Pro Bowl talent, but we need a backup.

#2781814 Kelvin Benjamin freshman highlights

Watching him in the open field gets me excited. KB along with a healthy Olsen and we will have something for Cam. I think Olsen played through a lot of ankle foot issues last year.

Avant and Cotchery will be very nice complimentary pieces too.

Man that song attached to the clip was beyond whack.

#2781803 What did Jimbo say about KB on NFLN?

Posted by Beast_3000 on 12 May 2014 - 12:10 AM

The irony is, I think Cam's way more accurate than he's usually given credit for.

I watch as many NFL games as I realistically can on the weekends (either through the redzone or Sunday ticket), and you'd be shocked how many alleged good NFL QB's sail and make bad passes on a regular basis, that are caught, so no one notices or cares.

On the contrary, Cam has had to throw into tight windows his entire career at Carolina, and couldn't afford to miss high many times. This same rule applies to under thrown balls, or when Cam's in trouble and needs his receivers to come back to the ball. Panther receivers, just weren't good at it.

Don't be surprised if Benjamin succeeds in his rookie year that Cam's completion percentage may increase 5 pts, along with his TD count, and hopefully the Panther win total?

Brady sailed passes all game against Denver in the playoffs this past year. Brady under threw Gronk against us for the winning touchdown.
Do I want Cam to improve his accuracy yes. There are quarterbacks that miss more than Cam by far. By the way I think Brady is pretty accurate as a passer.

I agree with you wholeheartedly about Cam though. He is given a bad wrap because he has had mediocre receiving talent. Give him AJ Green an accuracy would have been overlooked.

#2781797 There's no way we're carrying 5 RB's on the 53

Posted by Beast_3000 on 12 May 2014 - 12:00 AM

Stewart isn't going anywhere. When healthy he is the closest the Panthers have to a pro-bowl running back. His contract says he will be here for the next two years at least so you may as well cheer him on and hope for his health this year.

A running backs role is tough. If he gives me 14 games plus post season health I am happy. We have the depth to overcome a minor injury and hiccup considering his history. I truly hope he misses no more than a game or two.

Barner was really bad last year. He really didn't deserve a roster spot. He ran hard in the preseason but had fumble-itis. When he got an opportunity late in the season he looked really bad. I think a previous poster pointed out his yards per carry were below 1.5. Ummm that stinks.

A few of you say he was developing. Well I say running backs don't get that opportunity. Alfred Morris was drafted in the sixth round and he is a pro bowler. Look at Tampa's running backs and how they have produced given the opportunity. Besides Barner isn't going to improve from 1.3 yards a carry to lightening in a bottle.

Barner will be shown the door at the end of cuts. He is to small to block and not fast enough to elude NFL defenders. The only thing that could possibly save him is lights out special team play returning the football.

#2781261 Offensive tackle - Great minds think alike?

Posted by Beast_3000 on 11 May 2014 - 06:03 PM

You're right but what about the other teams in the division? Tempa went Berserk on offense this year even though they have a defensive minded coach. Sorry to say, we're not sweeping them next year. As for the Saints, well, we all remember what happened the first game and they got much better defensively through free agency and offensively through the draft. I'm a pessimist not because we're a bad team but how much better the division got. As for ATL, they'll get Julio back and their OL also is upgraded with Matthews. Sorry to say, we might be back to being the beating drum again in the division. I think this will be the year Gettleman will learn a valuable lesson and pick up some nuances in the dealings of the league.

I feel you. I don't think we will run away with the division because of how New Orleans and Tampa approached this offseason. For some reason I feel like Atlanta will still have problems.

I am also curious how the new quarterback in Tampa will work out. Can he play as good as he did in Chicago? I think it will take some time to build the type of chemistry he had with the Bears.

You make some really good points in your post, but remember we weren't expected to do anything last year. Most analyst expected us to finish last in 2013.

New Orleans and Tampa look good on paper but we will see if those free agent additions make a difference.

#2781048 Offensive tackle - Great minds think alike?

Posted by Beast_3000 on 11 May 2014 - 03:42 PM

In other words, we're screwed.

We were 12-4 with Bell playing right tackle. He had rotating parts next to him at guard and he still played serviceable . If Cam continues to work on getting the ball out quicker and we run the ball effectively we should see some improvement.
Amini and Trai Turner are very strong run blockers there is no reason to think we will not see an improvement with our run game.
Nate Chandler is a better tackle than guard. He isn't country strong, but he foes have quick feet.

We don't see what Gettleman and the coaches see in practice so you don't know if we are screwed.
