#2897815 Philly Brown Isn't Satisfied

Posted by Who Said What? on Yesterday, 08:50 AM

Good point.

You also needed a GM like Gettleman, who could realize the situation and clean house of all the crappy receivers and Steve Smith.

Many fans, have been killing the Panther WR's for years (while others were blaming Cam for their faults), along SS's bullying, and I'm glad GMan realized the situation here and jettisoned all of them.

The other surprise has been Lafell's badmouthing of our practice set-up and team structure.  I mean WRs all around the league used to come to Proehl's complex to work with him.  To me it was more than one bad apple with a bad attitude.  Who knows how toxic that situation had become?  Tough decisions had to be made and I'm glad we finally have one of those GMs now.

Also, there were a few people with high post numbers that overreacted and gathered a sheepish following.  A rookie struggles first couple of days of camp and mods are posting he is a possible bust.  The masses can't help but "chicken little" the website.

#2896982 Why can't Godfrey go back to Safety?

Posted by Who Said What? on 18 August 2014 - 02:04 PM

But none of those things matter!  Just look at his stats!

Its hilarious people say there is no correlation between Godfrey being IR'd after week 2, because our defense did get better after he left.  Its just like Josh Norman.  There is no place for a safety or corner who cannot be disciplined, or smart enough to play their assignment.  Godfrey gave up three touchdowns in two weeks and the last one he blew his achilles trying to recover because he was out of position.  Then our defense locked it down because Gettleman brought MIkell in and Mitchell started the rest of the year.  I argued this exact scenario with a guy last week.  Godfrey must go.  We need to continue to get rid of these mediocre players.

Charles Johnson's been one of the most consistent players on the team for going on 5 seasons now.  I don't think they'd let him go to keep Greg Hardy, who is battling some serious legal problems and is a strong candidate to miss a lot of games due to suspension.  In a perfect world Johnson would restructure his contract to be more cap friendly and they'd let Ealy step into Hardy's spot next season if he shows he's ready.

I really don't see them keeping Hardy past this season.  He wants too much money and his off field troubles make him too risky for a long term deal.  The Ealy pick looks brilliant in hindsight.

If anyone paid attention to the Giants, I believe Johnson will be the one to stay too.  The Giants kept the quieter more consistent Justin Tuck.  They paired him with Kiwanuka and the young J. Pierre Paul.  They let Osi walk.  He was the only one with negativity attached to his name.  We have not assembled all of this DE talent for nothing.  I mean hell, even Wes Horton was getting good pressure last night.  Gettleman has too much savvy and too much talent to hand Greg Hardy 60/70plus million.

#2896881 While Kelvin Benjamin has been anointed a "legitimate No. 1" after 1...

Posted by Who Said What? on 18 August 2014 - 01:05 PM

You mention the departures of Smith, Lafell, and Ginn but don't reference the additions of Cotchery and Avant. Kelvin Benjamin is not our only receiver this season.

This is ridiculous and it shows so much disrespect to those guys.  You have ESPN analysts going as far as saying Cotchery's 10 touchdowns were a fluke.  How do you accidently fall into ten TDs?  This is the NFL and if a guy catches that many TDs he was consistently beating coverage and converting by making catches.  Avant catches everything which instantly makes him an upgrade over Lafell.  I watched some of the sideline interaction last night.  Cam, Cotchery, Avant, and Benjamin were talking practically the entire game.  These guys have established more unity and camaraderie than the WR/QB combos of the past four years.  We are going to be better.

I just can't help but notice the number of plays made on Godfrey, Norman, Munnerlyn, and DJ Moore.  I mean straight up throwing up a prayer type nonsense.  I believe we have upgraded, while hopefully Norman and Godfrey can make huge strides in holding down their assignments.

And the baby tomato starts lagging behind.  So the Papa tomato gets really angry and he goes back and squishes the baby tomato.  He says "Catch Up".

#2884163 Kelvin Benjamin - Aside from the touchdown....

Posted by Who Said What? on 09 August 2014 - 04:59 PM

Is that so hard for him to admit?

Kelvin Benjamin is a bona fide Calvin Johnson type player.  He is going to dominate because he has the work ethic to go with the talent.  He will get more knowledgeable and more savvy in the first couple of years.  Get used to it man.  Its going to be "he is not fast".  Well he blew by the guy on that play.  "He can't catch".  Well did you see him make that catch over double coverage?  Its going to be like Cam all over again and I will defend KB's game as vehemently as I did Cam.

God, games really show the idiots on this board. It's easier for them to hide during the offseason.

Exactly, you watch a whole game and see someone produce.  Then you get on here and its all "I watched them very closely and they had a horrible night".  "Wait what number is said player?"

#2879969 Panthers will face former QB twice this year (Bucs name QB)

I'd quote the Bucs fan but that's like having your picture taken with a mall Santa, you know he doesn't really exist but the novelty is kinda cute.

I'm baffled as to how his shot in the dark attempt at attention garnered pie.

Does he mean "Alexander earned it" or "Ealy hasn't"?  Discuss.

Alexander has earned it.  He was a high talent coming out of college as well.  He showed some emotion last year during a game, and got the suspension in the offseason.  In the huddle, that equals bust or written out of the equation.  Alexander has skills, and will contribute this year.

#2878926 David Newton: Impressions from 8/5 practice

Posted by Who Said What? on 06 August 2014 - 01:35 PM

I'm not big believer in Godfrey.  The backfield seemed a lot better without him last year and I just don't think that was a coincedence.  Through out the years I watched him, he always seemed to be a step out of position or miscommunication or something....I don't know, I just never felt he had the football brain he needed to have back there; but, that's just my opinon.  He was given a huge contract by Hurney, so what do I know.

I went back and forth with a guy on this last week.  He was the only player in the secondary that didn't play most of the season.  We went 0-2, with him giving up or being in the vicinity of three touchdowns before he got hurt.  He left, our pass defense played better.  Its that simple.  Now he is struggling yet again.  I just hope Rivera doesn't allow him to cost us at the first of this year when we could go ahead with the rookie and let him take his lumps.

Also, according to now banned draft over reactor, he only has a 32inch vert.  All the subsequent photos and arguments of him dominating 5'11" CBs with forty inch verticals, went for naught.  I for one am applauding the fact that the proof is in the pudding.

#2874620 cam getting in ealy's ear at practice today....

Posted by Who Said What? on 02 August 2014 - 10:35 PM

This is so awesome by Cam, is anyone else surprised/impressed how fast he has risen to the leadership status?

I mean, he would not have done this two years ago, I get it comes with the territory of being older, but I never really expected him to be at this point or this well respected going into his fourth year the day we drafted him.

Cam was a great leader at Auburn.  Lee Ziemba talked about how when he first got to practice the championship year, he was like who is the new TE?  The reason was because Cam was out there flipping tires and joking around with the offensive lineman.  He was quickly told that was the new QB.  When he got here, he wasn't even allowed to make changes at the line of scrimmage and don't forget the 5'9" veteran whose hands were all over this team.  That is why after Gross' retirement and the jettisoning of SS, Cam is showing so much more leadership.  Save for his hatred of losing which was perceived as pouting, Cam has always been willing to be at the forefront leading.  In conclusion, I witnessed the 14-0 run of a Juco transfer QB and his band of misfits.  So him showing this natural maturation and leadership after the previous offensive team leaders are gone, is not a surprise.  I am excited though.
