#3368022 That Other Panther Receiver....Jarrett Boykin

Fun fact, I played high school ball with Jarrett Boykin at Butler High School. Cool to see him in Carolina again.

#3362101 Massive blocking fullback not new to Shula

Posted by P.I.A on 10 May 2015 - 11:05 AM

I like Ward. He has all the characteristics that a good blocking back needs:

Low center of gravity

Blocks low and commits to block until play is over.

Has excellent feet for a full back, very quick for 250lbs.

Obliterates the competition (as witnessed by the massive blocks delivered to corners)

Not afraid to catch the ball.

Just plain runs people over.

Very Blue-collar, I hope we keep this guy.

I would never argue that economics (of the rich, by the rich and for the rich) is not a driving force behind most wars.

The "War Between the States" is certainly no different in that respect.

The South had done a pretty effective job in DC protecting their "Peculiar Institution"  while expanding it westward in the decades prior to the war.

Of course there were multiple reasons leading to the eventual conflict, but there has been a lot of revisionism in the last few decades that defies reality when it comes to the prime cause of the conflict.

Don't take my word for it.  Here is the Confederacy's own Vice President, Alexander Stephens, addressing the subject on March 21, 1861 in Athens Georgia in what is now known as the "Cornerstone Speech":

Excellently written and sourced, sir.

In my training, and since all police departments seem to have my training now, how did this guy go from pulling the guy over to pulling his gun?!?! There is such thing as escalation of force. verbal commands, then soft controls, then hard controls, then non-lethal, THEN lethal force. This guy said fug it, and jumped to putting holes into a random pullover. He also fired I think 5 shots. Why in Gods name would you be dumping multiple rounds into a civilian filled gas station? Im glad this joker got the boot.

Took Fiz's advice about doing deadlifts strapped and got some chalk from a guy that I did deadlifts with on Wednesday...

Was able to easily get 405x4 and 455x2 unstrapped with chalk... that chalk is the bomb...  and that was a really good point about being able to simply drop the weight if you get in trouble... something you can't do if strapped up.

Ill catch you soon! Youre a beast!

Whats up all? Its been stupid at work so my posting has gone down the drain. I was able to compete in a camp wide powerlifting comp. this past week. I competed in the 191-202 class at 195 There was some stiff competition to say the least.

My number were:

Back squat- 445

Bench- 325

Deadlift- 415

total-1185 : #1 in my class!!! there some great benchers here, but no one really squats. I think thats what enabled me to take #1.

I've taken C4, 1.M.R, Ignition, VPX Friction and I'm currently on Platinum Pre.

Friction is my fav.  I'm on the Platinum because I'm cycling off creatine right now...

C4 is ok, but I build up a tolerance to it very, very quickly and end up taking 2 scoops.

1.M.R. works but tastes like vomit.

Tried Jack3d and hated it.. made me jittery...

Back when I was big into pre, I would get up to 4 scoops. no bueno.

I finally smashed my goal of 320 paused on bench! And hitting 20 BW pullups at 198 doesnt hurt either.

I do some things to failure - mostly body weight stuff like push ups and dips.
I've mentioned several times that I rarely lift heavy anymore. There's nothing wrong with lifting to failure if that's what you're into. I'm not. If you are used to it, of course your recovery times will be shorter.
Ever since I've discovered how awesome yoga can be, post workout soreness isn't really an issue.

There really is no cookie-cutter routine that works for everyone. I have several bulging discs (in my thoracic spine at that) that eventually led to nerve damage and muscle atrophy, especially around my left shoulder blade. Most of my workouts are somewhat limited (like Benching) and designed to increase mobility. Basically I'm trying to keep functioning and keep that dull pain right between my shoulders away. when I take a few days off, my back reminds me.

You should try contrast temperature therapy. Basically turn your shower warm then about half way through, make it ice-cold. It cuts down on soreness ALOT.

lifting to failure is as much about endurance as anything

Correct! It raises your lactate threshold like a mother!

It's like that giant guy in the video PSC posted said... it's different for different people.

I've done exercises to failure before, but don't do it often because I don't often work with a partner.  Joscott and I workout on the weekends some, but not during the week...

Having said that, I do some power lifts, but strength is not my main goal...  my goals are kind of mixed...

I like getting stronger and I'm stronger than I've ever been but it's not really my main focus...   At 40 I can bench 300 (1RM), deadlift over 300 for reps and squat 400 (although I don't squat much due to my shoulders)... so I'm pretty happy with that as is.

I want to see what I can deadlift... I did 315 6X today, but don't really want to push it either... I'm pretty confident I can get 350 at least 2 times, but I have to work tomorrow and figured I'd done enough.

thats an admirable goal! and the weight your pushing is solid! good job!
