#3213508 The Suck Bowl: Patriots vs Seahawks

Posted by CarolinaCoolin on 19 January 2015 - 04:14 PM

Probably true for those of you under 40 who never got a chance to see truly great QBs.

The games qbs now would dance around qbs of yesterday year old man. Defense has grown to be way more advanced and so has the offense.

#3209514 What does Gettleman do about Cam

Posted by CarolinaCoolin on 18 January 2015 - 04:16 AM

if anyone thinks newton is a bigger priority than the defense as a whole, they're in for a rude awakening.

as it stands right now, luke kuechly will be the highest paid player on the roster when everything is said and done.

I think I just got stupider for having just read this post. Thanks

Who is a good offensive coordinator?

Apparently anyone who has never worked here before

#3203697 The Shula hate is overblown.

I too think that the Shula hate is overblown,

But I also think Shula isn't a good OC.

I think that our underwhelming WR corp hurts Shula's success as a play caller,

But I also think Shula's lack of play design creativity exasperates the problem.

I think our horrible Oline for most of the season handcuffed Shula b/c it hindered our run game which is the foundation of our offense,

But I also think Shula's read option calls in the wrong situations and the long developing pass plays made the offensive line look worse than it already was.

In other words I think Shula is average. If we have an elite defense to go along with his averageness, like last year and the end of this one, we can win. But if the defense slips at all, we're in trouble.

This!! My whole point wasn't that Shula is a chip kelly or that we are lucky to have him cause if we fired him he would get scooped up by another team. Just that he isn't as horrible as people make him out to be. We were able to be middle of the pack despite our weak offensive talent.

That leaves 9 in the bottom 17. Two of which we played twice each and they both had the two worst defenses in the nfl.

Come on man.

Our whole division was weak. That's 6 out of your 9.

For comparison we also played two of the top defenses. It is pretty even.

With that said we really need to improve on our red zone offense to maximize points. We are good at moving the ball but always seem to stall in the red zone. That must be addressed.

Hating on Shula is the popular and very easy thing to do on this board. We as fans have sometimes an unreasonable expectation of what we think our offense can and should be given what we have to work with. The hate on Shula is way overblown on this board and I'll tell you why.

2013 vs 2014.

We went 12-4 in 2013 but posted some of the worst offensive numbers in terms of total yardage and points.

2013 offensive rankings.

Total points - 18th - 366

Total yards - 26th - 5069

Total passing yards - 29th - 3043

Total rushing yards - 11th - 2026

Besides rushing we were in the bottom half of the league in every single one of those categories.

Now jump to 2014 were we gutted our entire receiving corps, had our pro bowl left tackle retire, our left guard retire and starting Byron bell as LT.

We also were plagued by injury throughout the year.

Cam misses two games due to injury. He had broken ribs, an ankle healing from surgery, and two broken back bones from a car accident in December.

All three of our starting running backs missed games this season. At one point we had to play guys we signed off the street.

Philly brown our promising rookie speedster missed time due to injury.

2014 offensive rankings.

Total points - 19th - 339

Total yards - 16th - 5547

Total passing yards - 19th - 3511

Total rushing yards - 7th - 2036

So with all the injuries. Cam missing two games and playing behind the worst oline in football for half the season the offense improved in almost every category but points.

Now to play calling. I'll be in the game day threads and I'll want to rip my eyes out at some of the posts in there regarding play calling. Now by no means am I defending Shula on every single play call. There are always head scratchers that much is true. But I'll see posts saying "Shula needs to be fired!! He called a 50 yard pass play on a 3rd and 4!!"
1. You don't know who the first read was on that play.
2. You Barely see down field on who is covered until after the ball is thrown in the air.
3. You disregard cam made the decision to throw the ball to philly on that play.

That's just one example but we as fans don't have access to game film or the playbook. We see the play as it happens one time for about 2-10 seconds and it's over. That isn't nearly enough information to understand the play or its concept yet we will have people blaming Shula for player execution. Unless you have access to game film and can watch the plays multiple times I don't think you can fairly criticize the play calling because you as a fan have the littlest amount of information to work with.

TL:DR the offense improved in almost every team offensive stat despite injuries to key players and cam playing behind one of the worst olines in football in his worst year with the team.

We as fans only see plays one time and don't have access to see all the other options available to cam so criticizing Shula for player execution isn't fair.

#3203427 Hardy's Heart is in Carolina

Posted by CarolinaCoolin on 13 January 2015 - 03:57 PM

Uh, Hardy was offered a 8-9/mil year contract and turned it down before being tagged did he not?

Before he sat out an entire season getting paid 13 mil to do nothing.

Hardy has always been the guy who wants to get paid for what he earns. He came off a career high season and wanted to get paid accordingly.

He got caught up in a DV issue at the worst time in NFL history and got paid 13 mil to do nothing. He obviously wants to repay that 13 mil and earn himself another contract.

You guys talking about Hardy only cares about money are completely wrong and overstate that point waaaaaaay to much

The guy was a sixth round pick and barely made anything his rookie contract and then came off a 15 sack season of course he wanted to get his. Now circumstances are completely different and a lot of you are butt hurt about.

#3203317 Hardy's Heart is in Carolina

Posted by CarolinaCoolin on 13 January 2015 - 03:02 PM

Wow I don't know what more you guys could want from this guy. He specifically said he still wants to be in Carolina AND he'd play for cheap and you still have idiots in this thread who think he just wants the big pay day. Are you blind deaf or dumb?

Seems fake to me.

#3197661 Hardy leaves goodbye to Panthers players.

That isn't because the season is now over and they are going to all be doing different poo?

Seems like you're reading to much into it

#3191833 Official Panthers at Seahawks divisional playoff GameDay Thread...

Game time in a hour. Let's go panthers!

I want to see Russell Wilson on his back tonight

#3191114 Seahawks to make Russell Wilson highest-paid QB

Posted by CarolinaCoolin on 10 January 2015 - 03:49 PM

i don't get it. he won a super bowl. why is everyone so confused about this. plus they are rewarding him because he has been criminally underpaid due to where he was drafted. if cam wins the Panthers a super bowl I would be more than happy to give a blank check, and I bet a majority of other fan bases would laugh at the Panthers. same thing with Joe Flacco. the dude won a super bowl he can have whatever he wants. it is the Kaeprnick and Dalton contracts I don't agree with. Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco, Ben Roethilisberger, Eli Manning, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers deserve anything they want.

Flacco won them that Super Bowl. Russel Wilson just happened to be on the team. There's a big difference

#3187348 Dallas or Green Bay

Posted by CarolinaCoolin on 08 January 2015 - 03:48 PM

Dallas.

If we are able to stop lynch in Seattle we will be able to stop Murray in Dallas.

The pressure will be getting to that team and their defense is favorable to our offense.

That's how we make it to the Super Bowl

#3184458 Missed Opportunities Against Seattle

Posted by CarolinaCoolin on 07 January 2015 - 12:00 PM

Don't forget the botched exchange by Cam and Stewart that was a turnover on the 10 yard line earlier this year.

We dominated that game in the 1st half and had virtually nothing to show for it

I feel like you can say that about most of our games. We can certainly move the ball it's coming away with the points that needs to be fixed
