#2878021 Training Camp Wrapup - August 5

DC Jefferson?

Yep that's DC Jefferson, he's #80. Had to google his picture.

#2877847 I think I might hate David Newton

Posted by PerCC on 05 August 2014 - 05:20 PM

Did you really compare him to Schefter? One has over 3 million twitter followers and is a nationally renowned NFL figure for ESPN, and the other one is just a NFL Nation reporter for ESPN who has 25,000 followers. Honestly, David Newton is fantastic. His articles have just the right amount of homerism/fluff, but he still addresses the main talking points with the team. He is a writer for ESPN targeting general Panthers fans, I don't know why you're looking for some crazy in depth coverage - that's why you come here.

For instance, look at this screenshot I took of my twitter timeline earlier. Is it really the end of the world if Newton doesn't report one play? There's plenty of guys doing that already.

#2827857 Do you have a second team to root for?

Posted by PerCC on 23 June 2014 - 10:26 AM

I guess I'll go against the grain and say yes.

I'm from Huntersville but my dad is from Texas, and since I was little he tried to sway me towards the Cowboys, especially since the Panthers weren't around til I was 4. I root for them to win every one of their games (except against the Panthers) as a #2 team but I don't follow them in depth.

I also gravitated towards the Broncos when I was a kid because I loved Elway and Davis, and to a young kid having a few teams to root for doesn't seem so outlandish - just like that kid for make a wish foundation who is from Houston but loves Cam.

Neither the Cowboys or Broncos are even in the same area code of the obsessive fandom I have for the Panthers, but I am certainly fans of those two teams.

#2826768 one of my better finds at Goodwill.. I'm sure you'll agree.

it looks good but it is fake, the panther on the sleeve gives it away, but as long as the blue is the right shade i'd rock it proudly (esp for 4 bucks)

but to who said the stiched ones dont have a sewn on logos is wrong, the middle versions (not screen printed but not the elites) DO have a patch panther but they are not the same way as the bootlegs

the ones without the double stich, just the single stich numbers have a patch for the panther, but its a solid patch

You are right. But like you also said, when people refer to knock offs they are always in the Elite style. I've never seen a fake claim it was the Limited jersey (which IMO is the best bang for your buck). Also, the stitched on logos of the knock offs are all made of thread, while the patch on the Limited is more of a hard rubbery plastic material.

$3.99? I just paid $325 for an authentic Jordan Gross. It arrived today. $3.99 is a better deal.

Your Jordan Gross jersey is also an authentic one.

While $4 is a solid find, this is a fake jersey - you can get it for $25-$30 on AliExpress. Not many people care, but to a jersey dork like myself I could tell this Luke one was fake instantly.

#2824389 Yet Another Cam Newton Charity Story

Posted by PerCC on 19 June 2014 - 09:50 AM

You all have a ridiculous persecution complex.

The obnoxious media ramble about Cam stopped (or took a major halt) a while ago - just let it go already. The sarcastic comments about towels and his character have now become more annoying than the original bs comments themselves.

#2814749 Jacksonville Adding Pools to Stadium

Posted by PerCC on 09 June 2014 - 08:56 PM

Whatever gives fans something to do other than watch the travesty on the field every Sunday, why not.

But pools?

I don't know what you're talking about - pools sound freaking awesome. Like someone mentioned before, the real issue is that getting 50 people together might be a bit of a hassle.

#2778326 6th Round - Carolina selects RB Tyler Gaffney, Stanford

Have to think this means we cut deangelo

Cutting DWill gives us a larger cap hit than to keep him on the roster. It wouldn't make any sense.

Pretty sure we'd have to pay him an outrageous amount of money.

There is $6 million in dead money next year on his contract. His cap hit if we keep him on the same deal is $17 million. So we can either restructure, pay him $17 million, or cut him and only have $6 million count against the cap. So cutting him would save us $11 million if we can't get a team friendly restructure of some sort.

We wouldn't be paying him a cent, it's just his prorated signing bonus still has that extra $6 million left.

#2766150 Clowney signs endorsement deal with.....PUMA?

Posted by PerCC on 07 May 2014 - 10:29 PM

It is? I'm not splitting hairs here I just find that hard to believe.

IMHO, and I said this earlier, PUMA is going to have to put out an extremely strong shoe/cleat to compete with Nike and the rest of the big boys. The target demo/market is new territory for Puma. But to be fair, Cam went out on a limb signing with UA and probably turned down some nice deals from Nike and Adidas, and it's worked out very well for him. I interned at a sports marketing firm in college and this was right when UA started to get popular. They have been really, really aggressive and they have been highly successful.

2.7 billion in revenue last year ($3.75 million using today's exchange rate). Not even close to Adidas or Nike (who had 14.5 billion and $25 billion), but that's still pretty huge. UA was slightly less at $2.3 billion.

#2754815 Panthers now have two players in Top 50 Selling NFL jerseys

Posted by PerCC on 28 April 2014 - 05:29 PM

It's sad that you can't even get a middle tier limited jersey other than Cam Newton.

I don't want the screen print piece of poo jerseys, but I also don't want to spend $300 to get a Luke Jersey.

The team should look at the top selling 'game' jerseys and make them available as 'limited' jerseys as well.

You can get a Kuechly Limited jersey. Only Cam and him, though.

Either we are doing exactly what we said we were going to do and that is draft a WR early OR this is the greatest smokescreen any team has ever run...

Not really. It's just our team doing it's due diligence.

We have no idea how the draft will play out, and who will fall to us at 28. We need to make sure that Gman has his big board to his liking, since we will most likely be going BPA.

It's not like our entire coaching staff and Gman has been personally visiting these WRs. It's our WR coach taking the time to visit and evaluate all potential prospects (aka doing his job).

#2730546 Where We Stand: Receiving *UPDATED* 4/10

Posted by PerCC on 07 April 2014 - 06:43 PM

TE's and RB's caught: 63 passes for 1396 and 3 TD's

Olsen had 73 receptions and 6 TDs last year by himself.

#2723954 Panthers have 3.98 million in cap space

Posted by PerCC on 01 April 2014 - 06:30 PM

Godfrey does not help us until June 1, I think.  Someone else said he needs to be medically cleared too.  No rush--his savings will probably sign the rookies.

But yeah, I get it.  A bad S who is coming off an Achilles.

I guess he is just going to sit here until June or we find his replacement.

From my understanding, you don't have to actually wait until June 1st to cut him - you simply need to designate him a June 1st cut. The part about him being medically cleared is correct though. If we do want to cut him, that's the only thing stopping us.

#2673126 Should he be considered

Posted by PerCC on 03 March 2014 - 12:28 PM

I'd love to have him.

I'd also like an extra 3 inches.
