#2891863 Shooting in Missouri sparks protests, looting

Posted by 332nd on 15 August 2014 - 04:38 PM

One of the things that bothers me the most is when people use the excuse that the "police sometimes panic" and shoot people that didn't deserve to be shot as if this is some coverall that makes them more relatable and deserving of leniency. The ability to NOT PANIC and thus apply the law rationally and professionally is a major part of the police job description, nay it is pretty much their entire job description. If this is the quality of individuals that are in law enforcement I question the entire system that would place people like this in positions where they are given guns and put in potentially dangerous situations.

I agree. Yes they are human & yes they are subject to all emotions, mistakes, bad days etc... that everyone else is, BUT due to their training & the fact they are supposed to be a professional, they should be held to a higher standard.

Do you really think that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton truly want racism to cease? It is the sole reason for their existence and they have made a ton of money from it. Racism is their gravy train.....while others suffer from it.

To be fair, I think Al could damn near seamlessly shift to raging about class. He's already done some pontificating about it. Jesse would be fugged

I'd have to go with sending resources towards education with a high focus on innercity & rural areas, plus making money management part of the curriculum.

I mean look at lottery winners & pro athletes, a sudden influx of cash can do big things in the short term, but a large percentage wind up in the same spot.

#2886967 RIP Robin Williams

Back in '88, I was visiting family in NYC, & my aunt came in and asked if I would go to a show with her friend's daughter. I was a theatre geek so the fact that the girl was cute was a bonus. We went to see "Waiting for Gadot" starring Robin Williams & Steve Martin. (The play is about two guys waiting for this Gadot, & they can't do anything but wait til he gets there.) There were two moments in the show where they said fug the script & went improv. One happened when Robin & Steve just felt like it, one at the end of a monologue by Lucky (a slave played by Bill Irwin) that is the point of the play. The director wanted the distraction because so many people pompously insist on the play's meaning & few if any get it right according to the writer so he trolled the poo out of them.

The closest I can come to describing how awesome this show was is to imagine SCP talking about the morning poo he took after the Panthers win the Super Bowl in New Orleans & Al runs in to post about how since it was in the Super Dome there must've been Saints fans there, so they get partial credit, so the Panthers have a Super Bowl, but the saints have 1.2, then PhillyB makes a cartoon about the mental gymnastics Al needed for that, showing him doing parkour around NO, later revealing that Pat was actually stumbling down his block to Wendy's in a Ben & Jerry's haze to get a 4 triples with cheese, 4 biggie fries, & diet coke enema...

why can't dash cams be fitted to do more of a 360 view rather than just in front of the vehicle. here is another shooting that causes doubt and rage. it will be another he said/she said, so to speak with no real evidence supporting either side. just more suspicions and mistrust

I recall reading about a city that put little cameras on the officers' collars.

Eta: Apparently multiple cities have body cams on their police officers, & other cities are pushing it. From a few of the articles I read through, it not only keeps cops from getting too aggressive, it helps greatly in keeping suspects from acting up too. Seems like a good idea all around.

Why when something like this happens does the discussion immediately devolve into a hatred of Obama or of the right wing? Nevermind, I might as well ask why water is wet.

Anyway, I think the recent events in Egypt, Libya, Iraq etc... do seem to indicate that the Middle East is just not ready for Democracy. Every time they try to implement, somebody doesn't like the results and they pick up guns and start shooting at each other. Our own democracy as well as that in Europe developed over a period of centuries, so maybe its just unrealistic to expect them to move from a nearly feudal system that they had at the end of WWII to a democratic system that some are trying to put in place today.

Btw, Maliki is still in power, barely. He has surrounded himself with loyal Shia militia and has so far refused to step down.

But, but, but... it always worked on Civilization IV!!!

Once again

A scientist, a politician and a pundit tell a story. Who is lying?

Ask yourself, how many "conspiracy theories" have the scientist on the side of the "conspiracy theorists"

Few to none. Take the group being discussed in this thread. A&E 9/11 boast over 2,000 members. There are 90,000 practicing architects in the US alone. 123,000 structural engineers in the US. Assuming every single member of A&E are in the relevant fields, .9% are upset enough to spend a few minutes signing up for a website.

didn't one of those poles fall on a taxi?

What did the cabbie say?

His name is Lloyde England & he says a plane flew low over the highway, knocked the lamp post into his car, then crashed into the building.

A truther group called CIT interviewed him for their theory (that the plane actually pulled up at the last second then a bomb went off.) & kept asking leading questions to get him to say he was at a different place on the highway than he was to fit their theory. Then they made a big deal about the fact that his wife works for the FBI & basically accused him of being in on a cover up & having a hand in killing thousands. When this got back to him he stopped giving interviews. Oh, & his wife worked for the FBI as a cleaning lady.

I find it interesting (If not confusing) that so many people that have so often willingly expressed their displeasure and distrust of the Government can so willingly accept any load of crap fed to them by said Government.

I find it interesting (and confusing) that you think we're just taking the governments word on this.

It bothers me that when the Islams that hate our freedom hit the buildings the cloudsmoke became Satan's face.

The fact that people believe that poo is ligit cause for concern.

I guess the whole "I'm the healthiest I've ever been" talk was totally not a front or anything.

Scary thing is I think he might be right...
