You implying that you are living proof?

Nope, just that I am well versed in Black Dynamite.

I guess the whole "I'm the healthiest I've ever been" talk was totally not a front or anything.

Scary thing is I think he might be right...

I have always wanted to become wealthy, but it goes beyond my dreams. My parents poured all of their time into me and my two siblings. Worked for themselves so they could make every practice and game we played in. They don't have much, if any money, and I would love to be able to repay them by making their later years as comfortable as possible.

The three of us are successful and have great lives ahead of us because of them, I would just love to be able to give more back, as I took a lot.

That was part of my plan as well, unfortunately both parents died before I made good. So now I hope to double down on fostering & adoption. I was adopted & have sworn since I was 5 that I would give another kid the shot they gave me. I figure if I can be half as good its a win.

Sometimes I look at the wealthy and just imagine how they would react if they woke up 1 morning and all the ATM's were down? I picture it as an opposite version of " the god's must be crazy". I don't look down on people becoming wealthy. But I cannot deny that most become dependent on their wealth, like having money is a survival skill. Mo' money, Mo' problems, right?

I was thinking more along the lines of "A Day of Absence" but "The Gods Must be Crazy" works too. In my experience, most of that comes from those who suddenly became wealthy, (lottery, pro athletes, etc...) are self-made & have been wealthy for a while, & the first generation born into wealth.

When you say 'Faire,' are you talking about a Renaissance Fair?

Yes. My wife & I somehow made a pretty good career out of several acts & building costumes. Thus I've started putting that e on there for some reason.

Two of my most liberal friends had the opportunity to speak with GWB in round table situations. One was pretty local but the other was offshore and for some reason the offshore guy was under some "don't talk" agreement for having been there. Like supposedly super secret BS.

Of course he talked and said...yeah I see why he did what he did. That is a really smart guy.

Liberal douche #2 says the same thing. When you sit and listen to what he said...makes perfect sense.

Yeah you don't get to where you are by being stupid.

My mentor in grad school, a flat out socialist, was on several committees for W when he was Gov. of Texas. He would often comment that the "guy you wanna have a beer with"persona was an act... a very disappointing act.

Do you guys turn a blind eye to this stuff because there's nothing we can do to fix it or because you're too scared to accept it?

Why do you feel not agreeing with you = "turning a blind eye to it?

Who cares...
Off the top of my head?...
Gay people who have been subjected to that crap & it didn't take.
Friends of gay people who have been subjected to that crap.
Families of gay people who were subjected to that crap & it took, lasted long enough to start a family then the gay person went back to the way they were.
People who believe in personal freedom.
People who see no reason to change a person who is sexually attracted to a consenting adult/peer of the same sex just because others think there might be a being who will punish them for all eternity because gay sex made him/her/it cry...

#2806245 When Office Politics Goes Wrong.

Posted by 332nd on 01 June 2014 - 10:00 PM

Ok, this is an insanely long story so I'm just gonna sum up...

My wife was teaching at a college on a tenure track. Basically she had a contract that allowed both parties to cut & run with no consequence at the end of each year, barring certain clauses.

The guy who wanted to take over as chair of her Dept. directed a show & she was costume designer for it. (Note: He's the hack who can't even find a job in summer stock but thinks he should be on Broadway/in Hollywood. He makes up for lack of talent by schmoozing rich patrons.)

This guy totally screws the pooch (I'll leave it at that since its boring actor stuff) & throws everyone else (6 people including my wife) under the bus to keep his dream of being chair.

Well he gets chair, & all 6 announce they will start seeking employment elsewhere. He gets mad & decides to fire all of them before they can turn in letters of resignation. He does this by claiming they are incompetent, yadda, yadda...

They protest, & are offered mediation. (Unusual, but they defend their work/names) & they win. He gets all snarky & says it was just so they know he really won & was able to make them jump through hoops because he... is the muthafuggin chair.

Turns out the moron activated a clause in the contracts that made year to year go to 4 years & since the mediator favored them, instead of the final 3 months pay, they get 2-3 years pay depending on when they were hired.

Upside is I've been after my wife to start her own business while I taught. Now she has the capital to do so.

#2803870 More teacher pay news

Posted by 332nd on 29 May 2014 - 10:17 PM

I deserve a pay raise for those whiny teachers, I collect the funds that pay your salary. You are welcome and I do not get tenure, waaahhhhh. NCDOR has had min to no raise just like teachers. Plus I work 12 months a year not 10 months. Man up teachers, my mom is a teacher and she didn't do it for the money but for the kids to succeed. If most have forgotten, teachers get a big break in getting their education and other perks so no I do not give a damn, whine on. If they want big bucks then find a skill and go into the private sector but I will await for more bitching about fairness in pay, it's a public service job what did they expect just like me. Public service is meant to serve the public and the kids in their classrooms, I guess they forgot.

#2801363 Yet Another Mass Shooting

Posted by 332nd on 27 May 2014 - 04:33 PM

I don't know why, but I read his manifesto. Yep. A privileged loser with less than no social skills. He never even approached women, he just spent his time brooding over men who already got them. I mean, my god, he mentions World of Warcraft about 500 times. No wonder he had no social skills. And he was actually hoping his series of self-pitying "Why don't girls like me?" YouTube videos would encourage some girl to give him a chance, and that could have prevented the whole thing. Yeah, that didn't work out so well.

As to his dad being and AD, he really didn't have much clout. He was a second unit director, and just barely got an invitation to the red carpet event for Hunger Games. Just the reality of Hollywood; it's the same as anywhere else. An elite few have clout, and the rest are just making a living.

It was an unrealistic lifestyle he saw portrayed in the media that led to his downfall. He honestly thought good looks and a better car than anyone else had would make girls flock to him. But the fact is, he was just a video-game obsessed geek with Armani clothes who fancied himself a Casanova, but who had no initiative or personality to speak of, and couldn't understand why people didn't see him as he saw himself.

Poor, clueless 1-percenter.

Yeah I did too. That's part of the reason I find his mind set so interesting. He was incredibly whiny but his structure was surprisingly good. (Not great mind you, but as far as crack pot manifestos go his could hold attention.) His dad could've at least opened a door or two for him... & being in show business myself, I can attest to the fact that his being a whiny megalomaniac would be of little surprise to anyone.

He was just the kind of asshat that wanted to be recognized as great by everyone from jump.

"Why should I have to do anything to prove how awesome I am? If the world would just stop being stupid, realize I'm great, & give me everything I want, we would all be better off. Let the lesser males 'do things'. I'm better than that."

ETA: Also, I think that site scared the poo outta him. From what I saw before they closed it, it was full of guys who felt that we as humans were headed back to the times of "Alpha Male Harems" where they would never find a mate, or if they did, they would have to settle for 1s & 2s.
