In Topic: Gettleman: Oher can be answer at left tackle

What I saw out of Gettleman's quote:  Remmers and Newell were just given a very big vote of confidence, and apparently they are the starting RT and LG going into training camp.

Amini is not getting his job back at LG which means (with relief) they have finally figured out he is not really that good, and Newell is better.  And that they think Remmers can start at RT.

In Topic: Which Panther would you wish avoided the injury bug

Of course Otah,

But in addition, I will throw in another O-Line that has been mostly forgotten, but had huge potential.  He could only play 2-seasons due to injuries after the Panthers drafted him in the 2nd round in 2003.......Bruce Nelson. The guy only played in a few games and was very good...but hip injuries kept him from playing long-term and he never recovered.  He played center & guard, but I believe the Panthers drafted him to play center.  After he went down, the Panthers struggled for years at center until they drafted Kalil in 2007.

Can you imagine how dominate the Panthers O-line could have been & for a long period of time with a young Gross (1st in 2002), a young Nelson (2nd in 2003), and a young Wharton (3rd in 2004)?

In Topic: Cam Newton should be paid more than Luck or Wilson

22 February 2015 - 06:45 PM

I am a Panthers fan, and I want them to win whether Cam is the QB or not.  Cam is the best Panthers QB ever, and I would love for him to stay a Panther, and sign a contract so the Panthers can continue to build the team.  But, is it even possible to sign Cam to the kind of money he wants/deserves, and still be able to field a competitive team?  And if not, why would Cam be willing to take less to stay a Panther?

Bottom line is If Cam requires more money than the Panthers are willing to pay, than Cam will go somewhere else to finish his career.  This a business decision, not a personal or emotional decision.

The worst case scenario is Cam will be the Panthers QB for 2-more years.  He is under contract for 2015, and they can franchise him in 2016.

Look, none of us have ever heard of Remmers before he became the starting RT for the Panthers.  And Remmers did a respectable job at RT.  When Norwell came in as  UDFA, did anyone think he would be the starting LG, and perform like he did?  The OP is correct in that there does not appear to be a stud LT available, but who is the say there is not a 'unknown' LT available that is waiting for an opportunity to prove himself like Norwell, or Remmers?

Ex-greats like Greg Lloyd, Reggie White, and Eric Swann played (or tried to play) for the Panthers late in their careers.
