#2915881 Is Mike Tolbert really a franchise FB?

Posted by Verge on Today, 06:00 AM

I am just looking at some old games ( 2013). Looking at him, his is still making and struggling with the same issues. I know I shouldn't, but I always compare every FB to Mike Alstott and Peyton Hillis, they hardly get hit behind the line. This is not because their O-lines are that great, but because they feel when pressure is near. Mike is still getting hit behind the line when sometimes he can avoid. It is still frustrating to see him as a runner. He is an extremely inconsistent and streaky. His mechanics are poor with him running off his back foot and unbalanced causing hime to fall on his fat ass. I guess is this why they drafted the 6'5'' Tra T. I tend to wonder if the front office is sold on him as the future , because Im not. This has to be his make or break year. Love Mike as a person, the best thing that could happen to the Charlotte area, but not my choice for the future. I really like John Connor , I see the Jets going somewhere with him. Thanks for your views and replies.

#2915853 Is Cam Newton Really A Franchise QB

Posted by Verge on Today, 03:25 AM

4 or 5 tops

When a qb swings wins in such a way, that is how you know he is a franchise qb.

Look at the likes of;

Ryan Fitzpatrick

Matt Schaub

Colin Kaepernick

Geno Smith

Matt Cassel

Josh McCown

Sam Bradford

These qbs are only going to swing the win and loss category if they were lost by 1-3 games.

But if you look at;

Peyton Manning

Cam Newton

Tom Brady

Philip Rivers

Tony Romo

Ben Roethlisberger

Drew Brees

Andrew Luck

I think it is safe to say each of these qbs swings games by 7-10 games. If any of those above qbs went down, their club is not going to win more than five games, and that to me is a significant sign of a franchise qb.

The Assassin Creed series is pretty damn repetitive at this point.

Bell has played well in the pre-season, I am not worried.

#2885700 Huddle Pick & Choose: Who Produces More in 2014?

Posted by Verge on 10 August 2014 - 10:50 PM

Of the pairs of players below, which player will do you believe will produce more (statistically) during the 2014 season? Try to take in account all stats pertaining to their positional group and just generally average them off to who is more "productive by season's end". My choices are in bold.

Jonathan Stewart vs. DeAngelo Williams

Kelvin Benjamin vs. Greg Olsen

Ed Dickson vs. Brandon Williams

Mike Tolbert vs. Cam Newton (on the ground/rushing)

Charles Johnson vs. Greg Hardy

Dwan Edwards vs. Kawann Short

AJ Klein vs. Chase Blackburn

Melvin White vs. Bene Benwikere

DWill

KB

Dickson

Cam

Hardy (In terms of sacks, I think CJ will be the better overall DE)

Short

Blackburn

White

49ers: Kaep, Staley, Iupati, A. Davis, V. Davis, Boone, Gore, Willis, Bowman, Aldon, J. Smith, Miller, Boldin, and Crabtree.

Not sure how you only got 7.

Kaep is not a top 10 QB

A.Davis is not a top 10 Tackle

Bruce Miller is a FB

Crabtree and Boldin do not sniff the jock of a top 10 WR

So. No.

Kalil for sure

As good as TD is I don't think he's a top 10 LB. There are some really good LBs in the league.

Sent from my iPhone

We all agreed he is a top 10 OLB

What criteria were you using and if we have so many do you mind naming them and their respective position?

Essentially, we all named players on the roster, and if the majority of us agreed that that player could legitimately be argued as top 10 at their position, we put them on the list. It was two Broncos fans, a Falcons fan, Steelers fan, Raiders fan, and myself. So it made it interesting.

As far as our blue chips go;

Cam Newton

Deangelo WIlliams (This one was the hardest to argue honestly, but we eventually agreed)

Ryan Kalil

Greg Olsen

Greg Hardy

Charles Johnson

Star Lotuleilei

Thomas Davis

Luke Kuechly

I was having a conversation with some friends, and we were debating the "blue chip players" on each team, and were attempting to use that to predict how well they would do next season. We went through each teams and counted up how many players on that team could be legitimately argued for top 10 at their respective positions. The numbers might surprise you.

Nine blue chip players:
Seahawks
Panthers

Eight blue chip players:
Broncos

Seven blue chip players:
Patriots
49ers
Browns (!)

Six blue chip players:
Texans
Bears
Chiefs
Saints

Five blue chip players:
Cowboys
Lions
Packers
Cardinals

Four blue chip players:
Bengals
Ravens
Colts
Redskins
Buccaneers
Rams

Three blue chip players:
Bills
Jets
Steelers
Titans
Chargers
Eagles
Giants
Vikings

Every other team ended up with two or less.

Of course, as you all know, stars can rise any day and become a blue chip player. Also, qb play can make a huge difference on if your blue chips count, but it is an interesting topic none the less.

...what? "We have a 12-4 team and we lost some players to FA, better trade a top 5 qb!"
