As for CPanther, he's a notorious Gettle-Hater.

Opinion Invalid.

i have to at least give him credit for giving us something to chew on rather than the usual "gettleman ruined a 12-4 team bawww steve smith cam hates it here" drivel

i've seen other people defer to the draft pick value system before.  the way you're using it you're assuming that a pick has a certain value without actually taking into account how the player that's actually selected with it performs.  shouldn't teams like the bucs, raiders, jaguars, browns, and rams be perennial playoff contenders using that system?  i mean the rams were absolutely pissing gold when it came to valuable picks after the RGIII trade.  that's an important component to it that seemingly isn't being considered.

if gettleman can get similar on-field production out of fewer picks then i don't think it matters that much.  if an olympic archer and an amateur are told to hit a target four times and the olympian achieves the task after shooting six arrows while the amateur needs ten is it fair to penalize the first guy?

my ignore list has grown significantly this offseason

There were points on Thursday night where four of my ignored users posted sequentially. It was funny to see.

I think more people should use that feature if only to spite attention hungry special snowflakes who think their opinions are sacrosanct.

yep.  people losing their minds about deepening a position they don't need, a few other others yelling back "calm your tits do you not understand what BPA means?/", and a post calling grigson the worst GM in the league with 27 likes.

after this board went nuclear on thursday night i checked out their forums and was laughing my ass off.  it's some fascinating poo especially considering how the colts and grigson are widely thought of as the gold standard when it comes to building a team on this site.  seems their own fans don't agree.

#3345816 Yes, Shaq was indeed the BPA

Depends how you look at it.

If you meant he was wrong for not spending money we didn't have in FA, and instead was shrewd in picking up guys like Remmers, Norwell, and Philly Brown who have all played well for a fraction of the price of a FA or early round pick, then I guess he was wrong in the best way possible.

he just won't overpay if he doesn't see the value.  all the "duh" FA signings and picks that we didn't pursue?  it's because the asking price (whether it's picks, cap commitment, whatever) didn't line up with the value assigned to them.  i think history will show more hits than misses.

as for the 2014 OT market, veldheer was about the only one in that class with an asking price that we could have afforded and whose production backed it up.  his cap figure jumps way up in 2015 to boot which would have made him a no-go anyway.  collins doesn't have a job right now and guys like albert and saffold were way out of our price range to begin with.  you could maybe make a case for donald penn too but he was just brought in to oakland after they bungled saffold and expectations were low for him.

A lot of the same guys who are upset with this pick are them same posters who were super upset with Smitty getting released and has pooed on everything Gettleman has done since.

Coincidence?

no it's not a coincidence

the butthurt is supreme and they'll never let it go

Your elusive language paired with your high confidence in sources has been pretty off-putting this offseason (right or not).  Not saying its bad or anything but you're making yourself out to be quite on a high horse.  I'd ease it up a bit.

why should we listen to someone who throws parties that panthers players show up at and has proven sources inside the organization when we've got you

#3345485 How you can be horrible at your job and still have a fruitful career

Posted by I Mean He Was Found Guilty on 01 May 2015 - 07:16 AM

How hard is it to understand that Gettleman is really serious about not reaching.  Repeat after me Pete, "When you reach for a player of need you get burned.".

It's like everyone ignores the words coming out of Gettleman's mouth.

once humphries went off the board everybody had to know there was an 80% chance shaq thompson's name was going to be called

i mean hate it all you want, say that our GM is a double agent trying to sabotage cam, whatever.  but he's reiterated his philosophy over and over and if you're getting all wound up leading up to our pick thinking that this is going to be the year where we finally double dip at wide receiver because it's such a severe need then that's on you by this point.

And fans hated that pick

everybody needs to go read their forums

take the bitching here and replace "OLB" with "WR" and "seahawks" with "patriots" and you'll forget which site you're looking at

To be honest, many people didn't like the Kuechly pick back in the day, either.

i hated it.  i mean damn fletcher cox was right there and we needed a DT so bad!1

i learned a lesson from that draft
