If you want to focus just on 2010 and 2011 drafts, sure. But Hurney was excellent from 2002-2009 - even without many big-name free agents, we never were worse than 7-9.

lol "excellent" from 2002-2009?  you sure about that?

you know that timeframe includes trading back into the first to draft jeff otah and sending a first round pick off for everette brown right?  and the delhomme extension?  and the peppers fiasco?

all of you who dogpile on dave gettleman for not drafting a starter in literally every round of every draft should take a hard look at some hurneymagic:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolina_Panthers_draft_history

most of his drafts are seriously like one solid/perhaps even elite player + a bunch of crap that's not even good enough to stay on the team as depth.  if gettleman drafts like that for the next decade then yes by all means fire his ass.

The biggest difference between last years team and this years team is Jordan Gross retiring. Not Steve Smith, who is clearly slowing down now in Baltimore, not Tedd Ginn, who has been a joke Arizona, not Mike Mitchell who has poo the bed in Pittsburgh. The biggest impact was the one Gettleman had no control over.

giving guys like ginn, mitchell, munnerlyn, and others way more than they're worth to stay in carolina is exactly what somebody like marty hurney would do.  say what you will about humpty dumpty but he's not lacking in the balls department.

truth is there are teams all around the league that are successful and run by guys like gettleman.  our GM doesn't have the benefit of having been in place for years and, as such, several drafts and FA periods to build his team the way he wants.

hell even a team like baltimore run by a guy in ozzie newsome who's widely considered one of the best GMs in football had their share of losing seasons/one and done playoff appearances early in his tenure.  the packers had back to back losing seasons in ted thompson's first two seasons iirc as well.

e: correction the packers had back to back non-winning seasons at the beginning of thompson's tenure.  they went 8-8 in 2006.

No, years of worthless drafts have left the team thin at key positions. Stew, Hardy, and Cam are the only players still on the roster from the 08, 09, 10, and 11 drafts. Hell, the entire 2009 draft is now off the roster and Hardy is the last of 2010, so that draft is pretty much gone as well. That is Matt Millen-level incompetence.

Typing that out was painful.

two drafts in a row (2009, 2010) with no first round pick as well.  we basically lost a first in 2011 when hurney dealt what ended up being the 33rd pick of that draft to the patriots on top of that.

this team is straight up talent starved.

admin/password is still the most used login/password all over the world, even for critical servers.

i took an ethical hacking class when i was in college and our instructor was a professional penetration tester/white hat hacker.  he confirmed this concept and told some other stories about financial institution network security (his area of expertise) that were simultaneously hilarious and terrifying.

one time he was actually having a degree of difficulty with a bank that had hired him to do a pen test.  their practices were tight and they didn't make the typical dumb mistakes.  so he grabbed a bunch of flash drives, tossed a keylogging trojan on them, and just tossed them in the parking lot late at night when nobody was around.

the next day something like 7 or 8 out of 10 had phoned home.  tellers and other employees were just picking them up, shrugging their shoulders, and plugging them into their work computers.

#3098557 5 wins and we're in!

could you imagine it though

the cowboys or 49ers or some other big market popular bandwagon team sitting at home

meanwhile the poo-ass panthers are in the playoffs

wanna know something else?

thomas davis' cap hit is about to be $9.9 million in 2015

$7.5 million in cap savings if he's a post-june 1 cut

get your pitchforks ready

#3098547 Official Kelvin Benjamin vs Brandon Cooks Thread

cooks always seemed like a luxury pick to me.  he's a better fit on the saints with their stable of receivers than he would be here which is why i didn't understand the bitch fits people were throwing when we didn't get him.

Hrhmm yes I'd totally not want to go to the playoffs at 5 wins

I'd much rather watch the saints or falcons do it and preserve mah honor

Really? Justin Britt is better right now than any tackle we have.

this is pure hindsight.  britt was a projected third day pick and his name wasn't in anybody's mouth here in the second round.

if the huddle hivemind had somehow taken over the war room on draft day and selected an OT in that round it would've been morgan moses.

2012 at Atlanta.

There is no close second.

oh yeah, there's this one too

rivera takes the ball out newton's hands on a down and distance where he can just take the snap and fall forward to win the game.  then he punts it to ryan and decideds to blitz our best DB (gamble) with the falcons backed up on their own goal line and needing to force the ball downfield.

coming away from 2 goal line possessions with 3 points against the 49ers in the playoffs

continuing to run right into the teeth of their defense when they were full bore selling out to stop it.  play action bootleg to the right and newton could have stopped, dropped, and rolled into the endzone with room to spare.

against the bears in 2012

-kicked a field goal to go up a point, celebrates like medlock just nailed the game winner in the super bowl

-slant, slant, slant, slant, slant, slant, field goal

game over, bears win

i think the last few times i've had people try to talk to me about the panthers it's been some kind of stranger callout from a fan of some other team

you've never even been to san francisco shut the hell up about "your" 49ers

Proehl before Avant news, on Philly: “I’m still trying to figure out why the hell he's barely gotten any playing time … does similar things Ginn did for us last year.”
