Matt Ryan year 1: 3,544 yards, 17 TDs, 61.1 %, 7.9 YPA, 18 turnovers
Cam Newton year 1: 4.757 yards, 35 TDs, 60 %, 7.8 YPA, 19 turnovers
Matt Ryan year 2: 2,965 yards, 15 TDs, 58.3 %, 6.5 YPA, 21 turnovers
Cam Newton year 2: 4,610 yards, 27 TDs, 57.7%, 8 YPA, 15 turnovers
Matt Ryan year 3: 3,827 yards, 28 TDs, 62.5%, 6.5 YPA, 12 turnovers
Cam Newton year 3: 3,964 yards, 30 TDs, 61.7%, 7.1 YPA, 14 turnovers
We seriously still doing this? Cam > Ryan.
"But, but, but, Cam had the #2 defense last year!" Yeah? Well Ryan had the 5th best defense in 2010 (Ryan's 3rd year), along with a prime Roddy White, Michael "The Burner" Turner, and a 4 year younger Tony G. Ryan sure as heII wasn't throwing to Ted "I've never played receiver in my life" Ginn, Brandon LaFail, and a 35-year old slow and hobbled 5'9" Steve Smith that year either. 2010 Michael Turner was also miles better than 2013 Deangelo Williams, and I'm willing to bet his o-line was as well.
Every one of those first 3 years Ryan has had it better than Cam. Now suddenly Cam's stats don't count, despite literally the only help he has is the defense (and this being the first time in his career... and whaddya know, 12-4) while Ryan's 2013 is used as some sort of dumbazz example of him "carrying" the team when he finally gets put in a similar situation Cam has had to deal with. Hypocrisy much?
A lot of teams took a lot of players over Sherman. Happens every year to every team.
Bet a lot if fans were saying the same thing about Greg Hardy not being drafted until the 6th round.
yeah you can do this kind of stuff all day.
sherman's selection in 2011 is what made that draft what it is in the popular consciousness. that and malcom smith with the 242nd pick. the rest of that draft (including the four players selected before sherman) was good if nothing spectacular. i mean if you want to play that game seattle drafted james carpenter when justin houston and jordan cameron were still on the board.
of course i'm not disputing that our 2011 draft blew outside of cam though because it absolutey did
And I spoke to someone that is famous but not in the sports world. They say they try to blend in as much as possible in public places (good luck Cam). Because If you stop and sign autographs or take pictures your draw attention and people start to recognize you and before you know it you are surrounded.
i can sympathize with celebrities who get pissy when they're just out somewhere trying to enjoy themselves or with their family. not the kind of poo michael jordan allegedly does but i can understand turning down an autograph or a photo.
i was in a really small diner at the outer banks one time and ed o'neill (yes, al bundy) of all people was there. he was just trying to eat his breakfast and the dozen or so people in that place were straight up hounding him for autographs and pictures.
