Anyone who goes to this place, after this bullshit, and considers themselves a fan of the local team; please don't consider yourself a fan of the local team anymore. I just don't get. I already posted a topic about this a few years back. I am sick of bars/restaurants in the Charlotte area (hell in NC or SC) that consider themselves a Steelers bar, Cowboys bar, etc. fug off! Big Als... RJ Gators... Duckworths... GO TO HELL! These "establishments" rank right up there with ambulance chasers. Anything to make a buck. I can only hope these shitbirds are out of business by the end of Sept.
So I guess I'm in the minority here as I was Greek in college. TN, I'll be honest: joining Lambda Chi was one of the best decisions I ever made. I have lifelong friends and our bond goes deeper than that of my other/high school friends. It never once hindered my ability to have a good GPA (if anything I spent more time in the library due to mandatory study hall every week) and it truly made my college experience unique and memorable.
That being said, the worst thing you can do is join the wrong fraternity/chapter or join one that is only about drinking and hazing. If it's meant to be, the right organization will give you a bid. You could even try to rush again and talk to different chapters the next time around. If you don't get a bid or decide not to try again, then find other ways to get yourself involved on campus. Intramurals, clubs, whatever it may be. Make some friends in different dorms, and branch out as best you can.
I will say this, though: joining a fraternity is great for networking after you leave college. It's nice to create connections either through active or alumni brothers for help in getting a job.
I realized what BS the UW was at my first job. They use staff time to distribute their forms, then tell you you have to sign it and turn it in even if you are not giving. WTF is that. Don't get me wrong, I know they make sure that certain charities get money (which is good), but they are using a portion of people's "gifts" to pay their own employees (which is disgusting). I consider that a business and last time I checked, most places of business prohibit soliciting. Why does UW get a pass? Because they are doing good work? I would rather give to the charity of my choice and cut out the middle man, I don't need someone to do it for me.
I have been to the Thai place here in Mooresville several times and every time it seems like the people working there are pissed that someone is coming in and bothering them. The food there also leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe they were pissed because I asked them if the satay was shih tzu or chow. I dunno.
