#2904352 An Actual Reaction Thread That's Not Retarded

Posted by nosuchthingasapanther on 22 August 2014 - 10:03 PM

best post of the night.

is it possible to delete the entire forum and force everyone to read just this, take a deep breath, and back away from the keyboard altogether?

#2904252 the offensive line wasn't THAT bad...

Posted by nosuchthingasapanther on 22 August 2014 - 09:33 PM

Did you not see our run game?

yup...

williams 5 carries of 4, 2, 2, 1, and 0 yards.
stewart 4 carries of 4, -1, 5, 3

overall it was an ugly small sample, but stewart was effective while williams was not.

quoting myself because i'm lazy...

as ugly as it was, the oline didn't play as bad as it looked. on numerous occasions newton held onto the ball way too freaking long. his refusal to throw it away or use a check down is ridiculous. i'm going to assume they're forcing the issue of developing chemistry between him and the WRs and chalk this up to working out the kinks since it's preseason.

as far as run blocking, it is what it is...but there's no way in hell williams can be the bell cow back.

in a nutshell, don't anticipate the world beating offensive line the panthers had in 2008. the current line is serviceable.

#2902073 Norman climbing out of Rivera's dog house

norman won't get cut. he may not start, but he won't get cut

#2900348 Dave Newton-Outburst aside...Norman having a great camp

Posted by nosuchthingasapanther on 20 August 2014 - 06:21 PM

Norman being this supreme physical talent is one of the biggest Panthers myths there is. Just about every single workout of his at the Combine was below average for an NFL CB. He was the top CB performer in broad jump for his class, but that was because the entire class was weak in that drill compared to the norm. He would've been tied for 9th in broad jump in this past CB class.

The numbers don't lie. Josh Norman is a below average athlete for an NFL CB.

...because combine results is always an indicator of how a person plays on the field.

I'm not going to lie, the blocking was piss when deangelo was out there. But it got a lot better in the second quarter

no it didn't. the pass protection and run blocking were the same. it progressively looked better because newton started to knock the rust off and stewart is better suited to operate it behind it.

the line made it possible for stewart to run untouched into the endzone on his second td, but his other three runs were a result of his efforts.

his other two redzone carries he was hit at the line, but he muscled his way in for a td on one and an addition 2-3 yards on another.

his 17 yard run was a combination of both him and the line. the line created a tight crease, but stewart is the only rb on the roster with the burst to get thru it before it closed.

#2888528 Not one fight in camp this year....not a punch thrown

Posted by nosuchthingasapanther on 13 August 2014 - 05:15 AM

there may not have been any punches thrown, but i'm positive tempers have flared up once or twice.

#2888323 we have heard about kk's progression. what about star?

Posted by nosuchthingasapanther on 12 August 2014 - 08:29 PM

Meh, Wilfork averages 3.6 sacks a season and he's viewed as one of the best DTs of this era. If Star can average that amount every season, then that's a fugging win in my opinion.

haloti ngata, one of the absolute best in the business and who star is a spitting image of on the field, only averages 2.9 sacks per season.

can star improve on his pass rush? sure.

ultimately, it's not an area of concern because it's not a nose tackle's primary assignment.

#2888272 Who's the guy that you're glad you don't have?

Posted by nosuchthingasapanther on 12 August 2014 - 07:26 PM

dare i say steve smith and be serious about it?

it's who i'm glad we don't have.

i have no hatred for the man or wish him any ill will, and respect all of his contributions to the panthers...it was just time to cut ties and move on.

#2888201 we have heard about kk's progression. what about star?

Posted by nosuchthingasapanther on 12 August 2014 - 06:24 PM

it's not star's job progress into a pass rusher. the sacks he accumulates is just icing on the cake. his job is to control/collapse the pocket and not allow the ball to get past him.

#2888172 Panthers Training Camp - Final Thoughts

Posted by nosuchthingasapanther on 12 August 2014 - 06:03 PM

as already stated...but can't be stated enough, thank you for all the work you put in this offseason Jeremy.

your coverage of camp this season was very refreshing and more unique than those of the people i usually follow...and i follow a lot of people.

keep up the good work!!!

#2887714 Bell can win the LT position vs Chiefs.

Posted by nosuchthingasapanther on 12 August 2014 - 11:59 AM

bell "won" the job by default when gross retired.

the rest of this stuff is just fluff.
