#2778447 A humbling video about Kony Ealy.

Posted by GRWatcher on 10 May 2014 - 04:11 PM

What a tremendous burden to put on a young person, obviously one he accepted with love. Serves to remind us all that football is, in the end, all about real people and their families. Not avatars in a video game. It is so much more than just a business to those involved in it.

Welcome to the Panthers, to Charlotte, Kony. Glad you are here! Best wishes for success! #KEEPPOUNDING

now where did I leave that box of Kleenex dammit

#2726320 Mary Wilson becomes controlling owner of Bills

http://www.billszone...-owner-of-Bills

It will be interesting to see the potential ramifications. Having it in a trust may mean it has to be sold to the highest bidder... This may mean Mary can sell it to whomever she wants.

Which is great news, because that means she is not obligated to choose the highest bidder. If Jon Bon Jovi (for example), who would move the team, bids $900 MIL and Jeremy Jacobs (again, for example), who would keep the team here, bids $895 MIL, a trust would have no choice but to choose the $900 MIL. Mary Wilson, on the other hand, could choose the lower bid.

It may mean the Bills stay in Buffalo. Good Lord, I hope so!

It also shows what could become of the Panthers' ownership once JR passes. After all, Rosalind is the one staying awake during the games lol.

#2696417 So... It turns out you can't poo all over respected veterans and find co...

Hillarious how you say he's not proven, but went on and on about how much trouble we are in and how much we will regret letting Mike Mitchell go. The same guy he found and gave a 1 year deal to when no one wanted him.

Apparently no one bothered to watch Mike Mitchell's presser. Basically he had nothing but good things to say about the Panthers (yeah, expected that) and thanked them for giving him the chance to prove himself and what he could do. The guy probably had no intention of staying a Panther this year. In fact, he stated that last year the Panthers asked him to sign a multi-year contract and he declined, wanting only a 1 year contract.

After playing his first four NFL seasons with the Oakland Raiders, Mitchell took a chance and signed a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers, as he was “banking on myself” to make the most of it and hopefully turn it into something bigger.

And apparently Panthers fans could've done better too. lol

Mitchell has only been a member of the Steelers for two days now, but said he has already gained over 10,000 followers on his Twitter account (@MikeMitchell34) and it’s likely that number will keep growing.

Suggest watching both videos. In the 'LIVE: Special Guest' video he talks a lot about last year with the Panthers. I believe he did some growing up while here too.

Those short contracts may not all have been Gettlemen's idea. This points out how young players and their agents are viewing 1 year contracts these days. They are taking a chance on themselves and it worked out well for the likes of Mitchell & Ginn. And it's in large part due to the team's success last year. I wish them all well.

AND do NOT talk to me or moan about Munnerlyn. Last off season we let him walk & no team had any interest in him so he took our offer. He played no better than the year before really and his Viking payday is totally due to the Panthers defense's success.

#2639002 Does Andre Reed getting into the Hall of Fame help Steve Smith's case?

Posted by GRWatcher on 02 February 2014 - 07:54 AM

What you have to know is that the game of football was very different when Reed played from how it's played today. TE's mostly blocked, no Gonzales or Graham type of TE (Shannon Sharpe changed that). Running backs seldom were thrown to, the fullback was constantly on the field. If anyone was going to cross the middle & catch the ball it was going to be a WR. And most plays had only 1 WR on the field. And Reed was that guy. Never hesitated going across the middle, seldom dropped the ball. Like they said in his introduction, he was one of the toughest players ever. I think he should've been in the HOF before Kelly. Reed was my absolute favorite player while I was growing up. Glad he made it in.

Steve Smith is another tough WR and shouldn't have a problem getting votes to make it in the HOF. Especially if we make it to the Super Bowl again. poo, if Carter can get in (IMO he's a wuss), Smitty can for sure.

#2632910 Official Stadium Renovation Progress Thread Update 2-21

Posted by GRWatcher on 27 January 2014 - 12:25 PM

So, where is all the stuff that is being torn down going?  A lot of man caves out there that need to be filled.

After the 2003 season, when they made upgrades to the locker rooms and offices, they had a "sidewalk sale" at the stadium. My son bought a large 2003 schedule that had been hanging at the stadium all year, about 8'x4'. They had rug remnants, practice dummies and all sorts of things. Maybe they'll do the same thing.

"When I found out I had cancer, there were two things I could do -- quit or keep pounding. I’m a fighter. I kept pounding. You’re fighters, too. Keep pounding!"

In many ways, this team is full of players like Mills -- tough, smart, strong-willed and willing to play every snap like it might be the last.

This article made me tear up, seriously. So many good memories of Sam.
