#2801752 Just got a major promotion

I'm dead serious when I recommend that you go to Costco for your hearing aids.  If you're not a member, you can still go for the hearing test.  If you choose to buy the hearing aids, you have to join then.  But for the price and the service, it's completely worth it.  My husband got his there - less than $2000 for the pair.  He went to 3 or 4 places and had tests at all.  All of the tests were right in line with one another.  My husband has had his for about 8 or 9 months now.  He's completely happy with them.  He got the ones pictured in the link in this post - for his loss, they are the best as he has loss in the higher end rather than lower end - so he still hears the lower sounds on his own.  You can't even tell he has them on - he chose a color (well, I did), that matched his hair and unless you know they're there, you don't see them. Here's a link -  http://www.costco.co...aid-styles.html .  Google Costco for hearing aids and you read all kinds of good stuff.  Very low pressure and once they test you, you can put on a pair and walk around to see how they are before you place an order.  Ask for a dryer - it's technically not included with these, but they gave my husband one for free.  He doesn't need it, but he's got it.  Oh - and you need to set up an appointment for your test - it'll take about an hour.

And agree - it's silly that insurance doesn't pay for hearing aids.

You mean he employs 500 people with half of them being full time and he didn't offer health insurance?  Wow.  He actually deserved to lose his employees long before ACA

You should also check outdoor courts at schools - there are multiple basketball goals set up around the Crestdale Middle School bus lot.  I don't think I have ever seen them being used outside of school hours when kids have activity time.  I'm sure there are other schools the same way.  I don't know how good the goals are or how the pavement is marked there - I could look next time I am there.  But I'm sure you could find a school more centrally located that is the same way.

I have no words - I just can't imagine.  I know that I would want to die too, but then you have to think about your other child and you have to go on.  I am a nurse, and did my pediatric rotation through the Levine Children's hospital (not called that then).  I remember that I wanted to be a pediatric nurse when I first started nursing school.  It was when I did that rotation that I knew I could never do it.  I was only thinking of cute sweet kids - and I learned right away that these are cute sweet kids, but that they die more than you'd ever want to know.  I am so sorry.

I was assuming that the $21 would be in silver section but I'm guessing you are in like 110-113 or a similar seat?

Across from that on home side - 130-133.  Those sections are dark blue on the seating diagram and were the original "A" sections.

No - the biggest increase will not affect just corporate clients.  It affects me and most of the people I know who sit around me are just people who have PSLs.  A $21 increase is HUGE.  I'm sure they can expect even more of those tickets to go on sale in the secondary market - it's about the only way you can afford to pay for the tickets.

And according to the Scott Fowler article, sales tax is on top of that.  Crazy increase.  $109 to $139.43

#2646642 Has anyone seen and watched Enders Game?

Posted by Go To Girl on 08 February 2014 - 09:38 AM

We saw it - I'd never read the books and I liked it.  My 13 year old daughter had and she was disappointed that there were huge chunks left out or changed for the movie.  That still didn't stop her from enjoying the movie though.  I asked her to tell me about the differences and they did seem significant, but the movie would have needed another hour to tell the story like the book.  We actually went back to see it a second time because my husband couldn't go the first time and I thought he'd enjoy it.  May I also say that I saw it at the dollar theater.  I wouldn't have gone back to see it a second time at full price.  I'll probably buy the DVD because I think it's enjoyable enough to be in the family movie night rotation.

#2646627 J Stew tweets he's heading to Beech Mountain

Posted by Go To Girl on 08 February 2014 - 09:12 AM

Beech Mt. is nice but Sugar Mt. is better. Hawks Nest has the most difficult course and App Ski Mt is a joke.

Odds of Stewart getting injured during trip: 9/10

Hawks Nest closed their ski slopes.  They only have snow tubing now, but it's pretty fun.  Oh, and zip lines.  The old lift towers are still there and you can tell where the slopes were.  My son used to get to ski free at Appalachian Ski Mountain because he had snow skiing for PE (while at App State).  Free was good for him.

#2631170 Massive riots in Ukraine

Posted by Go To Girl on 26 January 2014 - 03:05 AM

I have a friend who is there right now - she's been there for a few weeks on business and was so close to Independence Square that she was posting photos from her apartment window and from times when she's walked through the protestors' village.  She just said that it was crazy loud when they rejected the latest proposal and didn't know what had happened until she caught a BBC report.  She's moving a little bit further away from the the "excitement" as she says tomorrow.  From the stuff she's posted, the protests at Independence Square have been mostly peaceful.  Further away from there is where the big stuff have been happening.  Nonetheless, I'm glad to see she's moving.

#2614632 A Couple Thoughts From Inside the Stadium

Posted by Go To Girl on 14 January 2014 - 08:04 AM

There's an older couple who sit in front of me who never misses a game (all 18 years).  The wife even wears a radio on her arm with an ear piece so she can hear the commentary there.  They ALWAYS leave early - if we're winning, if we're losing, it's just what they do.  It reaches a point where they feel confident in the outcome and they're outta there and it's just what they do.  I'd put their "fandom" way above many others who complain about people who leave early.  Their ticket - their choice.

#2613563 Panther Fans

Posted by Go To Girl on 13 January 2014 - 05:05 PM

SCP - after that Jets game, I saw somewhere some comments from Jets fans taking about our fans as well and the noise.  Included in that was - it's so loud, they not only use their voices, but they bang their seats ..... hahaha

I thought the crowd noise was great, but I didn't hear nearly as much seat banging as usual.  Those are really the best noise makers we've got if you know how to use them right.  I go home with my shoulders so sore.

#2612331 About that Boldin headbutt....

Posted by Go To Girl on 13 January 2014 - 09:30 AM

I agree! I ended up watching the game at the bar. We were baffled when no flag was thrown for that and also when he mushed one of our dbs in the head will on the ground after the play. There were a lot of questionable and no calls yesterday which really made  you wonder what was going on there. In the end, I am still proud of our guys. We will come back stronger next season.

I was in the stadium and that I saw him slam our guy's head down too when the play was over - and our guy was on his back working on getting up.  Said pretty much the same thing to my husband - how could they call that first penalty and not call that.
