Jason Avant sounds like a person of high character, according to this report..
(" Jason Avant is an avid Scrabble player. During Chris Berman's "Fastest Three Minutes" he referred to him as Jason "You Can't Always Get What" Avant. Avant and his wife, Stacy, live in Clementon, New Jersey. He is the son of Jerry Avant and Claudette Patrick. His brother, Edwon Simmons, was a baseball player, who was drafted by Baltimore Orioles and was a safety at San Diego State. He is now a talent scout for a sports agency in Chicago.
Avant is a Christian. Avant has spoken about his faith saying "I devoted my life to Jesus Christ on May 4, 2003. It was a day when, if you can imagine it, your eyes are opened to a whole different light. On that day, I had a consciousness of God that I never really had before. It’s sort of like being in darkness, but you finally start to see. I realized that day that all of the stuff that I learned growing up was backwards, according to the Scripture. It was the day that changed my life. I started realizing that I had a purpose, and every thought from that day on went through a filter of Jesus Christ first. Before I can make a decision I have to think, ʻWould it be pleasing to God?’".)
One thing you don't get is the fact that if the G.M. isn't a people's person then that could possibly trickle down to the players. No one wants to play for a team that disrespects players or mislead players. Football is a team sport so if the G.M. isn't building that team chemistry and team infastructure then the house could come down. Tampa Bay felt the effects from their head coach.
The man could be the best talent searcher in the world but if no one is respecting him and the players don't have confidence that the Panthers is a place they can comfortably call home, then him being a good evaluator is pointless because only old washed up players will come here for the vet minimum and potential talents will come here to strengthen their resume' for a one year deal then they will leave.
Hmmmm!!!! Marty Hurney was considered a people person by the players, how did that work out for the team? Not so good? Point taken, case closed.
Got to love the fact that Tavarres King possesses the quickness off the line that helps him shake off press and fly by cornerbacks playing off-coverage. As a vertical threat, he can track the ball over either shoulder and grab the ball with his hands near his head. He also has elusiveness after the catch to free himself after a hitch route. The work on his upper body has paid off, as he can play through physical corners to get inside position when needed. Extremely fluid route runner, plays with tremendous balance and body control.
Hahahah thought it was pretty funny to see good ole Donald Lafail still hanging around at the bobcats vs rockets game tonight, rocking a customized Anaheim Angels...wait for it.......Lafell jersey haha....knowing no one would prbly recognize him without his name on a jersey despite having that silly roscoe dash Mohawk thing.....he was with a very attractive young lady...wonder how long it will take him to drop her, someone should warn her.....
Was he the tall dude that had trouble finding the correct route to his seat and kept droping his drink ? Thought so. However,he seemed to be good at blocking everyone in the isle.
Everyone seems to be harping on Cam's salary but did our GM really just say Bell could be our new LT?
I've asked this before: What in the f*ck does Rivera and DG see in him? I just don't get it.
It sounds more and more like our line could be Bell-Amini-Kalil-Scott-Chandler if we don't get an OL in R1 or 2.
Also, what was the Godfrey thing someone referenced?
• He was noncommittal about the future of free safety Charles Godfrey, who has a $7.1 million cap figure and is coming off Achilles surgery.
“He’s part of the evaluation,” Gettleman said. “He’s got to get healthy first.”
• Gettleman sounded bullish on fourth-year player Byron Bell’s chances to shift from right to left tackle and fill the void left by Jordan Gross’ retirement.
“Byron is a naturally left-handed kid. He played left tackle his whole college career. He’s taken snaps there in practice and in preseason games,” Gettleman said. “I think the mistake we make is we all have preconceived notions about what a guy can and can’t do. I have seen Byron over there. In my mind, he is not a fish out of water.”
Smith carried this offense on his back for over a decade. He wants to take a step back for years, but instead gets thrown out because he isn't able to do it anymore.
I hope we don't do this to Cam.
Smitty may have wanted to take a step back but he still wanted # 1 receiver pay, this just doesn't work. He let it be known he wasn't going to take a pay cut,so that and his interaction with the team forced his exit.
The NFL is a tough and hardnosed business, not a social club or retirement home for players. It is a place where some decisions may not suit the players that are released,or their fans but due to circumstances it happens.
Panthers could out bid any other team if they wanted to & create cap space.
Our cap situation is overblown. It's because Dave doesn't want to, not that he can't.
OK wise guy,you seem so positive on this issue,so please explain how Gettleman can out bid any other team and still have money to sign Cam,Luke, Short, Hardy, etc. We are all ears and will be anxiously waiting to hear your master plan.
However,I will not wait to long because I seriously doubt you have a logical answer.
