Steve Logan is the new QB coach for the San Francisco 49ers

Kapernick gets Steve Logan and Newton is tick with Dorsey and Shula

God helps us

Worst offensive staff in the NFL

Steve Logan's points on the Panthers game past weekend and future. Radio interview...

12 January 2015 - 07:42 PM

1. Could not believe benjamin was not thrown to more

2. Point one was made in relation to Bersin failing on his route...why was Bersin the target there

3. Said one of the differences in championship teams is they had a punt and kick returners. Could not believe the Panthers did not address this in the offseason

4. Felt the Panthers were in decent shape for next year but tweaking was required including finding a decent returner. Discussion jokingly about Ginns one year contract being up and resigning him

5. Interestingly said the reason the Pamthers run the zone read so much has more to do with OL blocking deficiencies than Newton. Easier to hide those deficiencies in that scheme

6. Draft. No surprises. Same as most say on here

7. Asked what Cam should do in the offseason maybe trying what Kap is doing working with Werner and Logan said it couldn't hurt to work on 7 on 7s

8. Asked if Newton was worth the signing to long term. Unequivocally he said yes. Said in final QBR which his words just one metric of many, Newton ranked 14 out of 32 of the starting QBs

Again interesting to hear from someone who knows the Panthers and has been a coach

Looking at the playoff teams' offenses...

11 January 2015 - 04:24 PM

It is pretty apparent the Panthers are not in their league

Gettleman, fix it.

I don't care about excuses. I care about fixes that could be done without salary cap hits...better coaches...better schemes...smarter plays and schemes that match what talent is available.

If Rivera is too gutless to do it, well guess what, that's why you are here.

You are the expert.

Do something.

Points from Steve Logan on today's game

1.  Seahawks high and tight Safety play, Cam must look off that Safety with his yes vs. staring down receivers...said this high safety is nothing new, its done in high school and is very  basic and if Newton does not look that safety off, interception waiting to happen.

2.  Shula must have at least 2-3 explosive plays resulting in TDs from the team's top  playmakers (Newton and Benjamin) to have any chance at winning....he cannot stay the course all 4 qtrs., keep it close and then.....said Benjamin, 6' and gazillion inches needs to be told 'we are throwing the ball at your head and you need to catch it'.

3.  Benjamin and Newton will be the key...Benjamin must catch those passes...no silly drops...after 17 games he is no longer and rookie and needs to step it up...same with Cam, they need to execute and understand 'its one and done'.

4.  Highly complimentary of Cam and said his issue with footwork will show itself with a dropped left shoulder which in turn causes the ball to sail....said his lack of trust in the offensive line is causing these issues and that this 'muscle memory' must be trained out of him with repeated repetitions.

It was a very well done interview on 99.9 in Raleigh.  Logan, smart man, moreso than anyone I've heard, he gets it with Newton and that offense.
