From NFL Countdown this morning:

"Luke Kuechly is someone I'd like to sit down and have a cigar with."

- Mike Ditka

Talk about high praise

I dunno, I rather enjoyed this #34 TD run last season...

#2926883 Should I start Cam in FF

Posted by NanceUSMC on 05 September 2014 - 10:06 AM

I'm gonna start Cutler over Cam this week... I think we limit his rushes which is of course a huge part of his game that I believe will be missing this week... And I like the idea of Cutler passing to Marshall and Alshon...

#2856528 I loved them then...I love them now.

I LOVED Hornets basketball...  That place was electric...  Win or lose, the team WAS Charlotte...  We all could identify with a group of cast offs (in the beginning), that played like their hair was on fire...

I wanted to love the Bobcats like I did the Hornets...  But from the beginning, I just couldn't...  I never watched a single game...  Never attended a game...  Watched the team being mismanaged from afar...  And, in the end, haven't watched a single NBA game since 2002...

Cynically, I didn't allow myself to believe the Hornets would return (in name anyway), so I continued to keep my distance...  But once the name changed, almost immediately I found myself looking for Hornet news...  Paying attention...  Wanting to know more, and be part of it again...  Funny how something as simple as a name change can spark something like that in a person...

For the first time in over a decade, I'm actually looking forward to NBA games again...

I'm very disturbed by how many pictures you have of Ashley Judd.
She still chained to your radiator?

She used to be Z's favorite... Back when he was 29...... heh

#2738034 Number One Receiver vs Two Tight End Sets

Posted by NanceUSMC on 13 April 2014 - 10:25 AM

What we need to remember, particularly as a fanbase, is that RARELY does a rookie come in (regardless of where they are selected or how high their expectation) and step in as a #1 receiver...  The absolute worst thing we as a fanbase can do is to set unrealistic expectations on a kid coming in, and pressure him to be Smith's replacement...  It's unlikely to happen in the first year, and if we collectively add unneeded pressure, the results on that kid's psyche could very well be more than he's able to overcome in the long run...  We have to remember to keep our expectations grounded, and give the kid time to grow into the NFL...  Let the kid drop a pass here and there...  Let the kid go 2 or 3 games with no catches while he adjusts...  Just let the kid be a rookie...  And, IMHO, THAT is why we brought in mentors and released Smith (who we know from experience is not a great mentor)...

No tight ends?

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE double TE sets...  I just think that unless Ebron falls, which ain't happening, we're gonna go into the season with what we have at TE, and could sincerely see us waiting a while to address WR...  Not saying I agree with it (really would just have to wait and see how the pieces fall on draft weekend), but drafting where we do, it's plausible to see us waiting to hit the WR position in the early-middle rounds...

Don't be shocked when (if) the Panthers draft looks like 1-CB, 2-OT, 3-WR, 4-LB, 5-OL, 6-WR, 7-DB

#2724383 DeSean Jackson agrees to terms with Redskins

Posted by NanceUSMC on 02 April 2014 - 08:29 AM

Adam Schefter is now tweeting that Jackson, after 8 long hours as a Redskin, is unhappy with his current contract and is demanding to renegotiate...  Jackson intends to hold out of camp if a new agreement is not reached...  The Skins have not ruled out cutting their new receiver, and eating the remaining $16M left from Jackson's signing bonus, which would then leave him free to sign with any team...  Reports are that Philadelphia is interested in bringing him in for a visit if he is cut at the June 1 deadline...

Stay tuned...

#2715049 Two and Through?

I prefer the 'three and free' rule...  If you want to go out of HS, then go, but if you declare for college it's a 3-year commitment...  I personally don't care for the high schoolers in the NBA, as the VAST majority of them struggle, however, I do know that having the option is something that shouldn't be taken away completely...

#2711854 Buzz Williams to Virginia Tech.

Buzz was #23's roommate in college I think...

You're thinking about Buzz Peterson...

Buzz Williams is/was Marquette's HC...  This is a good hire for VT...

#2709568 Trade Charles Johnson for D-Jax?

Posted by NanceUSMC on 20 March 2014 - 08:40 PM

I believe (totally off the top of my head) that if we were to trade CJ that ~18 million would then come due on our cap immediately...

His deal was 6 years for 72 Mil, with (I believe) 36 guaranteed (and he's 3 years in, iirc)...

Somebody can research that for accuracy...

#2709474 Panthers interested in DeSean Jackson for the right price...

Posted by NanceUSMC on 20 March 2014 - 07:41 PM

I would love if we are the actual favorites to land him if he is traded, as the NFLN reporter stated, but here's where that doesn't make sense to me...  Both the Raiders and the Jets have significantly higher picks than we do if we're all offering 3rd rounders, AND I wouldn't put it past either of them to offer up to a 2nd for him.

I'd say if they want to offer a 2nd they can have him...  But if they want to offer a similar package, I wouldn't dismiss the notion of offering our 3rd and a 6 or 7, or some such...

The first thing DJ would demand would be to rework his current contract..  This would be where it potentially would work in favor for Carolina...  Give him a lower base salary, and more guaranteed money, and he's probably content for another couple years...  Keep the contract short (2-3 years), and it won't matter if he bitches all that much, as he would be close to Free Agency by that point anyway...

Add in some of the dead money coming off the books, and substantial cap increases the next 2 years, and this starts to feel a bit more realistic...

In the end, I believe it's a long shot, but if we're able to pull this off it certainly turns a negative into a positive for us...

I love the offseason!

#2707060 Cason cancelled trip,changes agent

Posted by NanceUSMC on 19 March 2014 - 04:32 PM

I'd say the 'most likely scenario' is simply that Cason wasn't happy with the offers he was receiving (you know the Panthers didn't toss out what he WANTS), so he fires his agent, and hires Rosenhaus to try to get a better deal...
