#3050636 Offseason Strategy

Posted by C47 on 28 October 2014 - 07:59 AM

We still have Cam under contract for one more year and we are trying to carry over quite a bit of free money into next year to help with the salary cap. What Moves do you think we do in order to field a more competitive team? Who do we go after in free agency? Who do we cut?

If I were to guess I'd say we do something like this:

Extend Cam possibly keeping his cap hit the same next year as it would if he didn't take the extension. It's around $15 Million I think. If he does that, he can take more money in the years following, but if he takes a team friendly deal, we're gold.

Cut/pay cut for Charles Johnson. We can do something more team friendly with him next year and we know it. This will free up some cap room for the free agents/Cam

June first cut Deangelo Williams. It's time. It was fun while it lasted, but it's been time for a while now.

Re-sign Dwan Edwards on another short term kind of deal. He's a solid backup at this point.

Re-sign Byron Bell to a back-up worthy contract. He sucks. I won't argue that, but he has starter experience and is familiar with the other linemen on the team. He'd be a decent back-up.

Who do we go after in free agency?

Jake Long, Michael Roos, or any other fat guy that can play OT at a halfway decent level. Not sure who else will be available either from cuts or who might be worth a look at, but I do know that we need an upgrade at this position badly on either side of the line.

Kick the tires on CJ Spiller to see if he wants to come back to the carolinas. He's getting up in age and has injury concerns, so we might be able to get a team friendly 2 or 3 year deal with him.

Draft:

I see us going either OT, DB, WR, and LB in the first 3 rounds. I would not be surprised if we pick up another athletic LB that could possibly start day one or we could groom for the post TD era of the team.

Any other contractual moves with the current roster/ FA options you guys foresee available? Who do you want us to sign?

Don't be surprised if the name Shaq Thompson from Washington starts becoming a dark horse in Panthers mocks depending on where we pick. Athletic LB who started at S but has transitioned into a two way star at LB/RB for the Huskies.

#3050620 Cam's first-down celebrations really bother a lot of people. Why?

Winning cures everything

This times 1000. People didn't complain last year because we were winning games.

You sir are crazy.

Every 1-3 round pick will not not should not be an immediate impact.

It just does not work that way.

Damn...Madden has ruined football fans all across the usa

Psssh.....my third rounders are rarely impact players in year one. Don't bring Madden into this....

Honestly that thread talking about Cam bolting in FA has me scared shitless...  I shudder at the thought of what our offense will be if Cam takes off to another team bc we didn't give him protection and weapons.

Rare that you see a franchise QB leave the team he's with when he's so young, but the lack of building around him is concerning.

Wouldn't hurt my feelings if we spent every draft pick on OL.

I know how you feel. I want another WR to compliment Benjamin, and we NEED a dynamic play maker in the Secondary, but it's really hard to look past OT right now.

Bell does ever so slightly better on this one... (he doesn't get knocked on his ass) but he cannot deal with any type of speed coming off the end...

Both guys lack the lateral ability to mirror speed rushers imo. OT needs to be a pretty big priority in the Offseason. Speed rushers aren't going away.

#3034027 Ron Rivera is still terrible at clock management

Posted by C47 on 20 October 2014 - 09:18 PM

4 extra points is still a loss.

Your point? Rivera is terrible at clock management. Even the biggest fuging homer should be able to admit that.

Saying that it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game doesn't excuse or justify piss poor clock management.

#2997274 2014 Los Angeles Dodgers Thread

Dodgers evened things back up tonight. They'll look to Ryu to get the W on Monday and in a worst case scenario get this thing back to L.A. for a game 5.
