#3004464 Greg Cosell's Week 5 analysis: Cam Newton's improvement is clear

Posted by jtnc on 07 October 2014 - 02:04 PM

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has had to stay in the pocket more this season, because of ankle and rib injuries. And he’s becoming a better quarterback as a result.

Ultimately, you have to teach a guy everything about playing from the pocket, if you’re starting from the premise that the game is played at its highest level from the pocket. And to play the game really well from the pocket, you have to learn the subtleties from playing in the pocket. You never get to those subtleties if you leave the pocket at the first flash of color from the opponent's pass rush.
You can be a difficult player to defend even if you’re erratic from the pocket, but if you’re erratic from the pocket you’re an erratic player. That’s what Newton was before this year. Now, because he is tethered to the pocket because of injuries (and maybe a different approach from the Panthers' staff), he’s developing as a pocket quarterback.

Did Hartsock retire or something?

#2991501 Gil Brandt draft redo

Posted by jtnc on 01 October 2014 - 12:31 AM

I have no beef with you on a personal level JT, but...

Please tell us all what Gettleman should have done, within the salary cap parameters he was handed to correct what had already been done.

Option A: <Bell sucks!! My God what were you guys thinking? You have no money? This organization is Kilgo's, but thanks for the job.>

Option B: <I can see into the future. Let's let Hardy walk pre-Rice video and get the best LT in the history of the NFL. Not sure who that is, but let's do it.>

Option C: Whatever you got to say JTNC.

Bell is the worst starting left-tackle graded by PFF so far this season. Let that fuging sink in your head. Gettleman and Rivera ignored ALL other options because they somehow thought he would magically play better than he did while on the right.

And yes, if you actually look at my older posts, I was not a fan of franchising Hardy. I thought it was a horrible mistake.

All hail Gman. The guy who actually thought BYRON BELL was the answer at protecting Cam Newton's blindside. Cam will be lucky to make it out the season without being placed on IR.

Benching Byron Bell is a fuging start.

#2989483 Why don't the Panthers seem concerned about the past two games?

Posted by jtnc on 29 September 2014 - 08:35 PM

I think it's very possible that the defensive coaches used both game tape from the first two games and player input (Mitchell on PIT and Smitty on BAL) to figure out our offensive weaknesses and exploit them.

Both these teams we just played have a rep for having good defenses and there's a reason for it.

Crap, with this Oline, it probably just took 20 minutes of game film to figure out what to do.

As for the defense, something is off... Idk what yet but something tangible has changed.

Jimmy Clausen knows our offense...

This was the moment our season was put in jeopardy.

#2983605 Are we going to completely ignore that Kuechly hasn't been playing well?

Posted by jtnc on 28 September 2014 - 02:19 PM

I'm not sure what's up with him, but his tackling and coverage has been horrible. I counted at least five missed tackles.

#2962621 Leave your Hardy jerseys at home

Posted by jtnc on 18 September 2014 - 12:14 PM

I agree.

Out of respect for Mr. Richardson alone, and yes, he does deserve respect, let's not disgrace our Stadium or give fuel to the fodder that is ESPN and the rest.

Let the focus be on the other 51 players who have not behaved like dumbasses.

And to women, who would wear a Ray Rice jersey, your ignorance is absolutely pitiable that you would think so little of yourselves that a left cross to the jaw is acceptable and supportable.

Out of respect for Richardson? Are you that fuging blind to realize that he only caved when the media came for Hardy's head?!?

Meanwhile, J.R. is gathering support for a COWARD commissioner who refuses to talk to the media.

#2943036 Smitty may be even more pissed than we thought (Panthers related)

How very "Christian" of him.

#2942064 Big Cat breaks down and cries talking about domestic violence.

I really hope Hardy wins his appeal so people who are calling for his suspension see how dumb they were. There is a judicial PROCESS that Hardy is entitled to.

#2937489 PFF kisses the hand of Luke Kuechly

Posted by jtnc on 08 September 2014 - 03:21 PM

Linebackers: Luke Kuechly, CAR (+5.5) and Thomas Davis, CAR (+3.9)

The league’s most formidable linebackers. After their awesome 2013 comes an equally awesome start to 2013. Does it get any better than these two?

Both Davis and Kuechly named to PFF week one team.
