A year or so back I was a regular fan on this forum day and night. Now I barely get a chance to get up here and if I do get a chance I just browse but never post or respond to others posts. Going into this season I wasn't sure what type of team we would be or even if we could win 6 games due to what I have seen from the previous seasons. The first 3 or 4 games to start the season I was just like everyone else and I pretty much figured that the season will be over and Ron Rivera will be fired. The season continues and I saw the Panthers go on a sudden streak of beating a couple teams like the Vikings, Rams, and Falcons. Even though we had won those games I still felt that we haven't played anyone and that we will continue to finish this season will a losing record. Now that we are at the point that this team is 9-3 and pretty much have control of their own destiny I can now say I am sold on this team and I’m very proud of those guys. Not only did they prove me wrong but they proved a lot of others wrong. It's really just a shame if you ask me that we are not getting the media attention like we should. But hopefully when playoffs come we will finally garner the attention and prove to everyone that our team is legit and we are going for the super bowl.
Nobody saw Chud leaving. And I love all the snarky fugging comments by these guys in the media.
"It was cute for the moment." It was also effective which is one of the reasons why we finished in back to back season with a top 10 offense in TDs per drive and are 4th in TDs per drive over the last two seasons.
This is the type of poo that makes me hate the media. They are eager to pounce. Gantt seems genuinely upset that Rivera did not get fired.
And one last thing, if Gettleman was that concerned about not hiring his own coach, he could have just not taken the fugging job.
I guess what people are mainly trying to get at is that we are keeping Rivera because of the stability . We aren't showing any stability right now because half of the offensive staff is gone. It seems that we would have been better letting Rivera go because now he is a pretty much a lame duck coach with a new GM.
I been on the fire the Rivera bandwagon for quiet some time. I wasn't mad or anything when I found out he would be retained. I expected the inevitable to happen in that situation anyway, I'm ok that JR brought Rivera back. I 100% support the Panthers and Ron Rivera now. I'm a Panthers fan at heart and I will continue to be a Panthers fan for as long as I live. Hopefully next year we can get our team on the right track and make the playoffs. I'm not accepting anything less then the playoffs next year and everyone else should feel the same.
Come on, rayzor. I would think you'd be more optimistic. Getting "stuck with the status quo"? Have more faith, bro. If Rivera is here, I guarantee we'll be in the postseason.
By our record and all appearances, we seemed so far away this past season, but we were surprisingly close to not only the playoffs, but greatness. The experience for Ron and Cam were invaluable, and sets us up for a good luck at playing in January, 2014.
I like the fact that you are being so call optimistic, but guarantee the postseason is crazy.
I remember I brought up a thread during the season in which I said we needed to hire our guy ASAP and I got a bunch of "we have plenty of time, blah blah blah..."
Well, I don't think many have considered this... Now that we've retained Rivera to this point, it's a sign that we're keeping him. Now, for those of you thinking we're going to go out and hire a big name GM, guess what? What new "big name" GM is wanting to come into an organization that has held onto their coach from the previous year so that they can't fully assert control over the football operations?
And now we're getting to the point that saying, "If he's not your guy, bring your guy in..." to any prospective GM candidate is a fallacy. We've strung it out long enough that likely even if we found a GM to come in with Rivera already in place and they fired him, who are they going to replace him with?
Just looking like a big build up to nothing.
I completely agree with this. No GM will want to come in to somebody else guy. They want their own guy most of the time. You are pretty much limiting your choice of candidates if you tell them that they have to stick with Rivera.
I'm not gonna make a Mr. Scot's length post. I'm sorry if you expected that.
I just wanna know why this board seems to blame Rivera only, even though we have a serious lack in talent and experience. Why is it so impossible for you guys to put the blame on the players and assistant coaches as well?
Don't get me wrong Rivera is a good defensive coach. You can tell that because the defense has improved by leaps and bounds this year. As for being a HC, Rivera is not that guy. I understand players may like him and they may feel that he is a good guy and all but fans are looking for wins. Most of your arguments is well the team hasn't quit on him and everybody say they want him back. Of course they will say this. They are not going to talk bad about the person who is giving them play time.Let me also say this, it's easy to play comfortable when the pressure is off and you have nothing to lose. It's not fair to the fans for the past two years we are out of the playoffs before Thanksgiving. Our team is notorious for a slow start and a lack of urgency under Rivera, They have played like that for the past two seasons.
In his rookie year we go 2-8 before December and then we go on a run and finish 6-10. His second season we go 3-7 before December and we end up going on a 4 game win streak and finish 7-9. : Aside from Atlanta, the Wins vs. Eagles, Chargers, Raiders, & Saints had a combined Record of 22-42. Let's not fool ourselves we played a bunch of scrubs at the end of the season.
I have seen a trend from Ron Rivera the past two seasons and i'm not confident at all that we will be consistent year in and year out with him. 4 winning seasons out 18 has to be the most sad thing about the team I love so much. It's just hard to be optimistic about the future when you get let down year after year.
So in reality Arizona is down to interviews with McCoy and Reid, Reid will probably be during the week. So they might never make it to that flight to Denver after all. It will be telling though if they interview Reid and don't give him the Job immediately though.
Also, that's now multiple people reporting that Beane is in consideration in Carolina to keep the GM job. Seems very likely he'll at least get an interview with JR and Accorsi. That's now CBS, ESPN and Yahoo reporting the same thing. I'd wager it's coming from someone other then Beane's agent at this point.
I'm really starting to get concern with this Beane situation. Yahoo and CBS has reported this. I haven't seen anything from ESPN but from Pat about Beane. If JR do this too us I don't know if I could ever stop being mad at this organization. I don't think Beane should be GM and Rivera shouldn't return. It will be a disaster.
The coaches made the calls to win said games. The players are responsible to execute. We were one play away in at least 3 games. Last year our scraps played like ass. Since the change was made to teach fundamental football after Hurney was let go we have shown DRASTIC improvement. How can you honestly say from this year to last year that you haven't seen improvement? We all knew that Rivera was hands on with the defense and that dumb base o-zone read poo at the beginning of the year was all on chud. If you fire anybody you fire him and bring in Norv.
So coaching wasn't the cause of the loss in the Tampa Bay game? What about the Chicago game? We still had a chance to win in Chicago dispite Cam interception. It was that soft coverage Rivera was playing in the last minute of the game. What about the Denver and Giants? Was coaching not a problem in those games either or that was all on the players too?
Now don't get me wrong, I have seen improvement on the defensive side of the ball. Now on Chud running the zone read as the complete offense that is all on Rivera. Rivera allowed Chud to do it because Rivera is the HC who suppose to have control over his coordinators right? The fact that matters is it took Hurney job for Rivera to stop using the zone read. If i'm the new GM I can't trust him and I would look into another direction.
Great. I can't wait to start next year 1-5 and finish off the season 7-9 again.
The GM should look at Rivera's time management, situational decisions, and personnel approach... If they evaluated that fairly, he wouldn't get another chance.
You could say Nakamura starting alone was worth several losses and at the least, it was the reason for the Atlanta loss. Yet, he refused to bench him immediately, instead, he made a gestural move to appease the masses by reducing his snaps, but kept him as a starter. SMH...
The numerous timeouts he's burned and wasted. The points he's left on the field as a result. His lack of involvement (perceived) on gameday.
His broken record pressers.
His numerous gaffes in the media admitting his horrible decisions - THINK "we wanted to make them systematically beat us."
Not to mention, CJ inferred that coaches were the problem when Hurney was fired and he was angry about the decision. But, now he supports Rivera? So, when we start off the season slumping again, is Rivera the problem AGAIN?
Another thing to keep in mind... Just because the players like a coach, it doesn't mean he's the right coach. It could mean they're comfortable in the culture, especially if we've grown accustomed to not being challenged by it. Not saying that is the case, but to question a coach halfway through the season, and then to say you fully support him after he accumulates several meaningless wins and maintains the status quo of mediocrity that has been set for our team... I just have reservations.
It was clear that he was the problem and now, magically, he's not.
But, it doesn't matter what we say... He WILL be the coach here next year. There are no mistakes on Panthers.com.
I agree with you man. Rivera hasn't shown me anything that says he will be better next year then he was this year. If It wasn't for that shitty stretch against a couple of shitty teams that are in the same situation we are in the huddle would have a different mood. I hope like hell that he isn't retained but known my luck he will be back and we will be mediocre again next year.
