In Topic: Torn ACL for Gurley

Just because a handful of players were able to comeback 100% doesn't everyone with a torn ACL will able to do the same.  Everyone is different.  I'm willing to bet my left nut that Gurley will drop to at least the 3rd round.  Either way, the Panthers are not going to waste a pick on a RB who is injury prone.  We already have backs who can't stay healthy as it is.  Plus, we have more important areas that need to be fixed that drafting an injured RB.

More than just a handful of players are able to comeback at 100%. I'm willing to bet for every player you can name who didn't come back successfully from an ACL injury, I can name one who did. And I mean recent (within the past 5 years), and only ACL tears, not mulitple ligament tears. Those injuries arent what they used to be. Gurley will be back to sprinting by at least April. I tore my ACL 10 years ago and was cleared for contact 6 months after my injury.

Darrelle Revis, RG3, Danario Alexander, Marcus Lattimore, Dustin Keller, Melvin Ingram, Rashard Mendenhall, Terrell Davis and countless others say farewell.

I'm not saying it can't be done and his career is over.  I'm saying I don't wanna risk a 1st or 2nd round pick on gambling that he's one of the ones able to make a full recovery, especially when it look like we're going to be picking high and with much greater needs to address.

All terrible examples. Melvin Ingram was already undersized to play in the NFL and should have never been a first round pick. Darrelle Revis is still a top 5 cornerback and shutting down other teams number one receivers. Marcus Lattimore dislocated his entire knee which means he tore all 4 ligaments in his knee. Not to mention he tore his ACL in his other knee the year before. Danario Alexander, Rashard Mendenhall, Terrell Davis aren't the same athlete that Gurley is. and as for Dustin Keller, he tore 3 of the 4 ligaments in his knee. you're comparing apples to oranges.

a 1st on Gurley no, unless he is able to work out at the combine or at a pro day which is out of the realm of possibilty. A 2nd on him for sure. The reward outweighs the risk IMO

Torn ACL = lost explosion, at the position most dependent on explosion in the game.

Lets be real, does anyone in their sane mind actually think Ryan wouldnt have marched down the field in field goal range even if we made that FG. Come on, 1:30 left to go against this D, might as well be a full qtr and all three time outs left.

Im kind of glad he missed the FG, it would have hurt worse when Ryan would have marched it down the field. I was 110% sure even if we made the FG, they would have still ended up winning anyway.
