#3374017 David Newton (and others) think our uniforms are outdated

why am i not surprised that this is a topic newton has a strong opinion on. probably has a much better grasp on that kind of thing than football, tho.

#3370268 Still a litte Confused why we passed over .......

Posted by rayzor on 19 May 2015 - 08:32 AM

word has been that funchess wouldn't have made it to our 2nd round pick. several teams were really interested in him.

that just wasn't the case with strong. who exactly were the ones saying that he was polished and more proven? probably the same ones saying that funchess had a low football IQ based on zero conversations with the kid.

these draftnik hacks that people keep on quoting and listening to leading up to the draft are barely more knowledgeable than many fans and they all make a lot of pretty illinformed assumptions about what teams are looking for (if they even bother to research them at all) and base their rankings off of essentially a couple highlight videos and usually just parrot each other.

i hate to admit it, but last years performance combined with a 2-3 record in the superbowl may have put him into legit HoF contention.

he's one of the most underrated QBs in the league, imo.

they had a first round grade on funchess and a 2nd round grade on strong.

that's why we (and a lot of other teams) passed on strong. the teams actually doing the drafting didn't have him hyped like the draftniks did.

#3370210 Pocket Cam vs. Mobile Cam

Posted by rayzor on 19 May 2015 - 07:45 AM

i don't want box cam where he's pigeonholed into one category or another. that's small/narrowminded thinking.

i want opportunistic cam who can kill it in the pocket or with his feet depending on what the defense is doing and where their strengths and weaknesses are.

what i want least is flat cam. that OL needs to give him space and time and they need to get ther poo together before week one instead of spending the first few weeks getting it figured out.

This is a list projecting the top 10 QBs for 2015. With those two targets we have and exceptional TE play, Cam should be able to put up the stats to justify that ranking if he improves on accuracy alone if you ask me.

agreed.

and all the talk about how is going to round out the WR corps is kind of silly to me. cam will have pretty much 4 targets that 90% of his passes will go to.

1) benjamin

2) olsen

3) funchess

4) whatever RB is on the field

the rest is incidental.

with an improved OL, cam being healthy, KB with a year under his belt, olsen just being olsen, and the addition of the funchess freak, i think we'll see him ranked very highly by some analysts who will either find themselves eating BBQ crow or pretending that they were on his bandwagon all along.

i don't see him with a poo ton of yards or TDs, but i see him being seen the way many of us already see him...one of the most effective QBs in the league and the hardest to scheme against.

we don't need that speed threat, imo. three giant receivers, good pass catching RBs out of the backfield, cam's ability to improvise and take advantage of holes, and an OL that gives him time and space will be more than enough for defense sto handle.

#3369836 Rotoworld ranks the NFL's "Best QB Situations"

Posted by rayzor on 18 May 2015 - 05:36 PM

I've seen defenders take shots at QBs going into their slide multiple times, mostly at the expense of the QBs head.

Cam's "crumple" may not be pretty, but its effective.  It *does* protect his head.

He can play with broken ribs.

He CAN'T play with a severe concussion.

exactly.

some players don't care about penalties or fines. they just care about being the guy that took out someone. cheap shots happen all the time. i'd rather cam's head not be the target.

I never said he wasn't smart in his decisions to go down...he just goes down like a Jenga puzzle when does.

i prefer him going down like he does as opposed to sliding like he's supposed to do. i don't trust defenders to pull up and not go full missle into cam's head. the way he goes down is better in the long run.

Cam is healthy.

The OL is improved.

He has true multiple targets.

He has experience, including a playoff win.

He has a D that does not require him to score 30 pts a game to win.

I'd say he is in his best position yet.  And I think he'll deliver.

totally agreed on all points.

#3369211 Patriots accused of cheating (redux)

Posted by rayzor on 18 May 2015 - 07:38 AM

one thing that their defenders do that bugs me is the rationalization of what they do.

"they were blowing the other team out so what they did to cheat didn't matter."

"it wasn't technically cheating so....."

"other teams have done this i'm sure"

"other teams have cheated at one point or another"

the reality is that the patriots have a culture that says win at all costs, which if done ethically and within the rules is ok. but that's not what the pats do. they are legitmately one of the best run teams in the league and have the perfect system for tom brady, but they go to lengths to try and ensure wins by taking actions off the field which puts things in their favor, like videoing other teams practices, deflating balls, and messing with opposing team's communications.

with other teams these might be isolated events, but with the pats, it's pretty much to be expected.

i think the biggest thing that gets me, though, is the number of pat nuthuggers that call themselves panther fans. i just don't understand that one.
