The Rise of Moore

December 28, 2009

After watching Matt Moore’s performance over the past two weeks, every Panthers fan in the nation is wondering the same thing… what if Moore started earlier in the season?

After all, it was clear to nearly everyone without some extreme emotional attachment to Jake Delhomme that his career was over after week one of the season. Quarterbacks do not play that poorly in this league and remain a starter, right? John Fox disagrees. Only an act of God (in the form of a broken finger) can unseat a terrible quarterback. Even in the moments up until the broken finger, John Fox spoke his now infamous quote “Jake Delhomme gives us the best chance to win”. I am guessing Fox would love to take that one back by now.

Game Grades – Vikings at Panthers

December 21, 2009

It seems no one has told the Panthers they are out of the playoffs yet. Last night they seemed to put together the energetic performance we have been looking for all season long. While enjoyable to watch, one can only think about how this season may have gone differently if Delhomme was pulled after week one.

On with the grades…

Offense:
The most balanced and efficient offensive effort of the season. Matt Moore finally began to settle down and showed flashes of what he could be given the time to develop. Stewart ran for over 100 yards and Steve Smith put on a clinic. Despite the extremely poor officiating that tried desperately to keep Saint Favre in the game, the Panthers did enough to beat one of the league’s best. Without Deangelo Williams, without both starting tackles. Read more

Why Fox needs to go, and why Cowher might be the answer

December 16, 2009

Many Panther fans want former Steelers coach Bill Cowher to come in and rescue the franchise.

Most Panther fans have probably already read what Darin Gantt from the Rock Hill Herald had to say on the possibility. Jason Cole from Yahoo Sports had a similar take (although we think his source might be Darin Gantt). Even fans in our forums that often have intel have said Cowher to Carolina is a no-go.

I take a different approach. I turn the objective eye away and look at it from a biased fan perspective.

Does bringing in Bill Cowher make sense, and is it a possibility?

Absolutely.

It Really Is What It Is – Time To Move On.

December 13, 2009

Once again, the Carolina Panthers will follow up a winning season with a lackluster one. It’s a common occurance in the John Fox coaching era.

After their latest defeat by the New England Patriots, the best the Carolina Panthers could finish is 8-8. 5-11 is more likely, however. They’ve officially been eliminated from playoff contention.

So why is this team, that was 12-4 a season ago, performing so poorly this season?

John Fox believes Jake Delhomme has given the Panthers the best chance to win all season long.

John Fox was proven completely wrong.

Beason Story: Much ado about nothing

November 30, 2009

I am not saying Beason did, or did not, commit the assault that is  currently plastered over every news broadcast and webpage in the Charlotte area. I was not there.

However, according to WCNC, the alleged victim:

has a history of legal troubles, according to court records, including charges of assaulting a female and writing a worthless check in 2008, both of which were dismissed. He was most recently arrested for aggressive driving in October.

If I did not know any better I might conclude this gentlemen to be one of the many overly aggressive oxygen wasters this city has seen an influx in over the years. We have all seen them on the interstates bullying other drivers and in the clubs looking for trouble. Big on mouth, short on brains. Just the type of guy that may pick a fight with a NFL linebacker.

Sounds to me like he may have gotten a quick lesson in etiquette.

Just when the Panthers give us some hope of a post season, they crush our dreams by losing at home to a badly crippled mediocre team. The playoff hunt is officially over.

Dolphins game crucial for playoff hopes

November 19, 2009

The Panthers are staring .500 in the face tonight.

Win against the Dolphins, and they’ve got a shot at making the playoffs for a second straight year — a feat the team has never accomplished in their history.

Lose, and it’s likely that the Panthers will miss the playoffs.

It all comes down to this game against Miami.

A valiant effort in the first half followed up by a stinker of a second half. At this point, no one should be surprised.

Panthers clip Cardinals

November 2, 2009

Give credit where credit is due: the Carolina Panthers finally played the game against the Cardinals that they should have last January, forcing Arizona QB Kurt Warner into 6 turnovers and running the ball almost exclusively in the second half en-route to victory.

The story of this game was the Panthers’ defense and rushing attack. Panthers QB Jake Delhomme didn’t have a stellar game, but he didn’t have to. Jake did what he was asked — not make mistakes and make plays when you have to.
